I have "Feminine" tastes in movies and activites, I like Cher and Madonna and Rocky Horror. I hang out in a Gay Straight Allience at my college and I'm a really nice person. Everyone automaticly assumes I'm gay, not that it matters at all, but can't people fathom a sensitive straight guy who supports gay rights (I also speak strongly for Minority and Women's rights but no one notices that), and who happens to like things classically associated with gay culture?

Gay Marriage in Massachusetts! Yay! (Was anyone else outside the state house for that celibration?)

Libitarian? Eww...Sorry I'm a Socialist all the way. Let people do what they want and there will be lynching and KKK death squads all over again.

"can't people fathom a sensitive straight guy who supports gay rights ... and who happens to like things classically associated with gay culture?"

Well Aleph, gay guys could. But most straight gays have a very simple-minded idea of what "gay" is ... and they *need* to keep it that way, because if they ever started learning something, they might find out they have a secret.

Why does it bother you if people think you're gay? I'm not and
I really don't give a damn what people think. You state that straight guys suck. Are you really sure of your own sexual
preference? I gay friend once told me that a true test of one's masculinity would be dressing in a pink tutu and belting out Broadway show tunes on television. Think about it.

It's just that society has established a gay-man image associated with exactly those things you mentioned. I know some sensitive straight guys who support gay rights, so maybe it's just the people you're surrounded by. I don't know! It's just that many guys are so caught up with looking macho with their football and refusal to watch any movies that don't involve things blowing up that they avoid a lot of the culture associated with gays. Come to think of it, my straight guy friends who support gay rights are really open to things, especially culture-wise. But then it makes sense to be supportive of gay rights and be very open-minded in general. Some people are just too ignorant to realize that the fact that we're fans or champions of equality doesn't make us gay or lesbian, it just makes us...fans and champions of equality. =)

I should post my own question...what is it about gay marriages, aside from the obvious homophobia, that pisses people off? Whose rights are they taking away? We need a more libertarian view of things in this country...

you seem like a nice person. One thing I've learned is not to take what people think to heart. If they want to waste their time trying to get under your fingernails, let them, who cares what they think? You know who you are and that's all that counts. Don't change on account of peer pressure.

all the best, my friend.

i feel ya! u sound like a really cool guy to me! i know, ppl assume that when u advocate gay rights u urself must be gay. ive had the same problem (just some ppl have thought i was lesbian). just ignore them! if they ask u, just say "No I personally am not, but I am also not against it" and if they make some dumb comment about ur musical tastes, well who cares?

Do what you got to do man.
But you have to understand that society works in a sense of identification in order to identify and classify people. We do that as humans too.
Also if you do things that society associates with one group even though you do not necessarily identify with that group you would be automatically classified into that group.
It's ok to go against the demands of society sometimes; so you do not have to worry about trying to please others if you are pleased with yourself.

Because humans are more secure if they pigeon hole those who don't fit their template of how other humans should think.

More power to you, its nice to hear from a man who isn't threatened by his own masculinity.
