My 1 year old did this to my one month old that he just met. Should I be concerned?

Must be an epileptic turtle. I would not be too concerned about the 1 year old unless he grows a shell. When he grows up he will be shaking something else at ya.

It is either territorial or an attempt at courtship.

If the other cares are solid, it is not a concern either way. For example, if the tank is big enough fo each to have its won space, territoriality is not an issue.

Remember- turtles do best in big spaces. Aim for 10 gallons of swimming space per inch of turtle.

Your turtle is showing aggression againist the other one. Also this is a form of protection. why do you have such a small turtle in with a larger turtle? Make sure that you don't have too much water in the tank for the one month old, they can die really easy.

No concern. My turtles did the same thing. I think it's just a way they talk with each other. It's kinda funny. It could be a mating technique... who knows. check out some info on the web. I never read any thing on it though.

I can't profess to be any sort of expert, or even really know what the behavior is (it baffled me constantly), I can at least tell you I had two sliders for a few years who did this, and there never seemed to be any bad blood between the two. They still shared a log and never attacked one another or anything...

No,I also have to red earred sliders. If they are both males they get aggressive and if they bite eachother get rid of the newest one.Or you could try a divider Im trying to get rid of one of my turtles because he is mean to the other one.

Madgins is right. It's called the mating dance. He can do it to show dominance too though so you need to keep a close eye on them. If the older one is nipping and biting, it may be nest to seperate them, unless you want a dead turtle.

I think I saw this on Americas Funniest Home Videos one time, and couldnt stop laughing. I think it is a sign of agression.
What is the size difference in the turtles??
Keep an eye on them!

He is trying to intimidate it to show it that HE is the boss, and to teach that younger turtle not to bother it. Monitor them closely, and if they start to fight or get too agressive, you will have to keep them seperately. Why didnt you take this into consideration before you got the second turtle? doesnt anyone research anythign anymore? or do people just buy things when they want to when they see it now.
