Find the slope and y-intercept for the line x – y = 4.

y= mx + b
m is the slope
b is the intercept

x - y = 4
x - y + y = 4 + y
x = 4 + y
x - 4 = 4 + y - 4
x - 4 = y
slope = 1
intercept = -4

Teacher comment:
Minus 1 because an intercept is a POINT, not a number. Minus 1 for no solution checks. Check your intercept.

Yes the intercept is a point, so technically you should either say:

the y-intercept = 4 OR
the intercept is at (0, -4)

Your teacher is indicating that you should state the intercept as a coordinate on the Cartesian Plane (a point in the (x,y) format)
So you should have said, y-intercept is (0, -4).
