Hello. I am a 7th grader and I just started going to a college prep school. Man, it is really challenging! I wanna talk about how bad history is, but I've gotta stick with the topic. My teacher asked us to write a rough draft of an essay. The topic was "What it means to be 12". I turned in the draft yesterday and got peers to edit my paper, and as I was reading my friends' papers, I realized that they had interesting first and last paragraphs. I am particularly weak in this area, so can you help me? And by the way, I my essay was about my life, family, friends, interests, and feelings. It's sort of like an autobiography, but I didn't talk much about basic facts (birth, height, etc.)

Keep in mind that the first paragraph should give the reader an idea of the things you're going to talk about,, sort of a short version of the whole essay if you like,
the last paragraph, shouls be a conclusion, like, what you think the whole essay ment, or how the whole thing brings you to what you are. hope that helps,

Well always start your essays with something that will catch the eye. Like a question.... for example. Have you ever felt like you were stuck between being a little kid and a teenager? Well that is what it is like being 12. .... something like that. Or an interesting fact about yourself. For example: When I was 2 I couldnt even walk properly, when I was 7 I couldnt even ride a bike... now I am 12 and I am the fastest kid in my grade. Something along those lines. You want to be able to capture your audience.

Go on to talk about how your life is interesting at 12. Then go into other paragraphs about your friends family, hobbies, things that bug you, or you love....

Always end by summing up your paper. Start with saying something like. Being 12 means I have alot of life ahead of me and behind me. I liked being 12 the most because..... Though I think I will be challenged by.... End with something sweet. something quick and final. Such as at least I only have to be 12 for a year...

Those are just a few tips.... There you go!!

I know this wasn't your question but I can't write an essay for you. So I thought I'd help you for the future.
The best way to improve your writing skills is to read more.
Read good quality novels. If you don't have the patience to read novels, read short stories. Read the New York Times Magazine. Go to bookstores and pick Pulitzer Prize winning authors and flip through and read a couple of paragraphs.
Start to understand what makes a writer good and then you'll have less of a struggle getting the form of the essays solid.
You will be a better writer without even thinking about it.

What happened? Here I am at the age of twelve facing the reality that I'm no longer a child and not yet a man. Change can be very difficult and confusing but I know it is necessary. I'm not the person I used to be, but neither am I the man that I will someday become. As I consider this, I notice that even my thoughts and emotions are emerging as something strangely unfamiliar. Looking back, I remember when I really enjoyed......but now those things don't seem as important as......

Well, the first paragraph of your essay is called an introduction and the last paragraph is called the conclusion. Your introduction paragraph should tell your reader what you're going to tell them about in your essay. Don't say "I wrote about..." or "I'm going to tell you about..." Your conclusion should tell your reader what you told them in your essay. Confusing, I know. Your conclusion is important because it's the last thing your reader reads. It needs to have an impact. I am not the best at writing intros and conclusions, but that's how they're supposed to be.

"This age is like no other. Being 12 years old is a turning point from a child to a young adult."

I am 13 years old. I think this would be a good opening.

The first paragraph should be your intro, the last your conclusion. Don't begin your concluding paragraph with 'in conclusion', teachers hate that.
