I don't know if "war" is the right term. But there has been fighting between the Irish who want to remain part of Great Britian and those who want to be an independent country. A group called the IRA (Irish Revolutionary Army) is the one fighting for independence.

Because the official church in all British countries is the Protestant Church of English, most of the people wanting independence are Catholic (non-Church of England). So the fighting is often said to be between the Protestants and the Catholics, but it is a political not a religious "war".

Most of the fighting has been of the "car bomb" type, so the IRA has often been listed a terrorist group.

At this time things are relatively quiet. There has been not major fighting for several years, so it has not been in the news for a while.
