Yes, I can understand why your current lover is tripping about your friendship with a former lover. How would you feel if the situation were reversed?

No matter what honesty should always come first. It does sound like you have been honest with your current about the friendship you hope to keep with your ex.
So, what's more important to you, your friendship with the ex or the current boyfriend?
Why does the current bf feel as he does?
Ask your current bf if he has a suggestion on how you can keep your relationship with him in good standing and still be friends with your ex. Maybe he just doesn't want to be left out of this friendship.
Then after careful consideration of all feelings involved. Just prioritize and you will have your answer.

Yes, you can still be friends with an ex. I broke up with my first boyfriend, but I didn't lose a boyfriend or a friend, I just gained a bestfriend. As for your boyfriend to trip about the situation...I can see where the guy is coming from, but here's the thing, a relationship is built on trust; so, if he can't trust you to be friends with someone who you knew longer than him, then I don't think this relationship will last. Don't get me wrong, your boyfriend may have a little jealousy in him, but if he cares about your happiness and your friends, then that insecurity can be put aside.

It's ok to be friends but it's pretty tricky cause sometimes feelings can linger. You think you're ok and then you see your ex. Before you know it you're thinking about that person and hoping to run into them the same place again. Enough time has to pass, but that's never a guarantee. Current lovers beware. You'll never know exactly what happened in the relationship.

I think that it is very possible to be friends with your ex and I am currently in that situation right now and I also leave with that person as well..I just think that anything is possible. My ex-girlfriend is currently dating someone else right now. Keep faith alive and be patience.

NO.
MOVE ON.
CARRYING AROUND BAGGAGE CONTAMINATES FUTURE RELATIONSHIPS.
IT IS INSULTING AND HURTFUL TO YOUR CURRENT PARTNER.
WHY DO YOU FEEL THE NEED TO "KEEP SOMEONE IN YOUR BACK POCKET"?
DOES IT MAKE YOU FEEL MORE POWERFUL? CONFIDENT? DESIRED?
DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU NEED TO KEEP THEM ON "STANDBY" IN CASE YOUR CURRENT RELATIONSHIP FAILS?
WHATEVER THE DEAL WITH YOU IS, LEAVE THE PAST IN THE PAST.
