You describe a condition known as "Spasmodic Torticollis" (not to be confused with Congenital torticollis). This is caused by activation of myofascial trigger points in one or more muscles of the neck/shoulder, resulting in painful muscle spasms/contractures.
Usually an underlying condition of spinal subluxations predisposes your neck to this type of strain.
It would be wise to see a good Chiropractor for a proper spinal evaluation and treatment.
For this type of condition ice or moist heat may be helpful for temporary relief. (Moist heat is NOT contraindicated with myofascial pain syndromes - so it is fine to use it for a spasmodic torticollis condition.) Do not attempt to stretch or twist your neck - that can aggravate the trigger points if done incorrectly.
Moist heat or ice, rest the neck, and a good Chiropractic evaluation may offer you the best and longest lasting relief.
Best wishes and good luck.

You may have pulled a muscle. Try alternating heat and ice. Put on heat for 20 minutes then wait 20 minutes and put on ice for 20 minutes. If it doesn't help you, may have pinched a nerve. If you get no relief after a day or two you should probably be evaluated by a Dr.
Good Luck, Hope you feel better!!!!!!!!

you most likely pulled a muscle in your neck...it can be VERY painful...just ice it or use a hot pad on it...for a few days take some advil (or whatever you like to use) and just relax...don't strain it anymore...and if it doesn't clear up call your physician

Definitely - Go to your family doctor. You could take advil for now for the pain -it will help with any inflammation -if there is any. When you see your family doctor - he/she will advise you what to do.
