Whoa! Well, maybe the internet will be the best bet.
What you want to first do, is study the different formations. For example, a 4-4-2, which is classic and very simple, but in many cases requires very talented players; a 3-2-3-2, 3-5-2, etc.
Each formation goes with the tactic you are using. For example, if you are using a counter attack, you may want to use a 4-3-2-1 or a 5-4-1, however, it would probably make the game extremely boring, or your goalie would recieve alot of shots from 20 to 30 yards away. Hardly a good tactic if you really want to win, should only be used if you are already beatin a team that is actually better than yours.
However, if you are coaching youngsters, excersice and technique are vital. In fact, my beliefe is that in they are under 10 years old, screw tactic, teach them technique, such as ball control, jukes, fancy moves to evade a defender, etc. Now that does require people who have played soccer, so you may want to get some freinds involved in that.
And also, you have to remember, THERE ARE SET PLAYS IN SOCCER, from a stand still or when the ball is moving; different players move in different directions depending in where the ball is and who has it.

Good for you! I play team football as well and I know coaching is one of the toughest job especially if you don't play the sport yourself.
Say, I come across practice drill once in a while and read quite some online. I don't have it handy but will try to find it out again for you.
Obviously, for anyone (including kids) to enjoy football, one needs to learn about the basic skills but it's the hardest part especially for kids since it takes a lot of concentration and... in most cases, it's the most boring part!
So, in my opinion, a good kids' football coach would make the most boring part exciting and interesting for the kids to continue.
