So, for example. It's your 20 week scan, you've known for 16 weeks you were pregnant, you've started buying stuff, everyone knows and they tell you some terrible news. Do you love the baby any less?
In England they offer you blood tests at 16 weeks of which you don't get results until your 20 week scan. Then all they tell you is that you are high or low risk of having a downs child or some equally difficult disabilty. They don't tell you if you are not, just that you are high or low risk. No guarantee. So if you're high risk they then offer you an amniocentesis test, a needle through the belly in to the fluid around the baby and this gives the final result, except what they don't tell you at the time of the blood test is that even if you are high risk there is more chance of miscarriage from the amniocentesis than there is of you having a disabled child. I didn't have the test. Why would I? It's my baby and I would love it no matter what. If your baby had no arms but showed no signs of downs, spina bifida etc then why would you not let it live? People are injured in accidents and loose limbs and lead normal lives. There are children all over the world struggling without food and water, no one suggests abortion because their mothers have AIDS, no one suggests it because they live in a third world country and will probably die at the age of 3 from starvation, why would you kill one because it may not be 'normal', What is normal? There's another question for you.
Thanks for listening guys! I'll get down off my soap box now! x

At no point. Doctors begged me to terminate at 19 weeks when my water broke, because my baby would either die at birth or even if I did manage to hold off labor long enough for her to be viable, she would be severly disabled. She was born almost 9 weeks later. She had a rough start, and has some disabilities now. She is mildly retarded, and at 6 years old, is like the average 3 year old. I wouldn't trade her for anything in the world.
All you people saying you wouldn't give up your life to raise a child with disabilities......you shouldn't be having children anyway. When you have sex you're taking a chance that you will have a child "like that." Just don't have sex and you won't have to worry about it. I can't believe how selfish people can be.
Yes, let's make abortion illegal. And then if women are so desperate to murder their babies that they're willing to risk their own lives by going to a back-alley abortionist, let them suffer the consequences!!! A murderer is a murderer, and we execute murderers all the time. Why should baby-murderers be any different........I actually think they're WORSE!

I don't personally agree with killing a fetus, but it IS the women's choice. If a child had 9 fingers, that would be more of them to love. If the child had no hands, I'd lend the child my own set. If they had no arms, I'd teach it to do other wonderful things with it's legs/feet. At 32 weeks pregnant, I found out that my daughter had Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, a very serious heart defect that would result in death if immediate heart surgery was not performed. I could have had a medical abortion, but chose not to and I love my daughter with all my heart. It is your own decision to keep a child or terminate. Some people simply cannot handle a child with illnesses.abnormalities, and that is you. Follow your heart and the answer will reach you.

first of all lilypops, they have a heartbeat long before 20 weeks. I saw my son moving and his little heart going strong at 8 weeks. They become a baby at the moment of conception, not when you can see a heartbeat, not when they can surrive outside the womb on their own. But at the moment of conception!
I would never terminate a pregnancy. Even if they told me in no uncertain terms the baby would die after an hour. How wonderful it would be to have that hour. To see them, touch them, hold them. I would rather have that small hour than to spend my whole life wondering! Also, doctors can be wrong. What a horrible thing to murder an unborn baby who you thought didn't have hands, and then to see you were wrong.
That and call me crazy, I still believe in miracles. I believe God can fix anything!

I dont think I could, no matter what the problem. I would like to give my child every chance it had. I would love it still the same if it was physically or mentally impaired.
I personally think abortion is murder, but also understand that some women just couldnt cope with a birth defect, so its down to personal choice.
my friend recently had an abortion purely as a method of contraception, she got pregnant accidentally and she didnt want a baby interferring with her life.
I think thats despicable, killing a child so you can carry on partying, and I told her so. We no longer speak.
Its a highly emotive subject, with both sides of the arguement having valid points, but I couldnt do it.

Well, I thought about this a lot. I just had my first baby in June and luckily she was perfect. However, honestly speaking, if she was NOT, I wouldn't love her any less. However, I am a nurse that works with retarded people with disabilities so I understand your question. I would have to say, if making minor adjustments, minor medical procedures, etc. would make the child's life fullfilling and painfree, I would not abort. However, if the child was destined to a life of pain and misery and needed lots of advaced medicine to live, I would CONSIDER abortion. But honestly, how would we REALLY know that unless it was born? Tests can be wrong you know and God really does know best. I can tell you from my heart, if my baby girl lived to be 100 and never matured past what she is now, I would still love and care for her because she came from my body and means the world to me.

it depends what the circumstance some people do not have any other choice, but whatever stage you do it it isn't pleasant, and i'm sure for most people that do make that choice it will not have been made half heartedly, however i really disagree with those people wh use it as a form of birth control!! and children can live happy fulfilled lives even with disabilities it depends how much work you are willing to put into it. (i just hope your not thinking about it out of vanity because that would be low!)

How about never????? Abortion is wrong and doing so is taking an innocent life. Abortion is usually the easy way out of responsibility. I am pro life all the way. Rape and the health of the mother are difficult situations though. I personally would have my baby live instead of myself if it was a matter between me or my baby. Rape, well this is why they have the morning after pill to prevent ovulation therefore preventing pregnancy.

Christians are so contradictory. God gives you free will, but a baby is a blessing from God.
You have to respect that some women have other problems to deal with other than worrying about a foetus. Problems you may not even be able to imagine in your pristine little christian lives.
However, some women do treat abortion as a contraceptive and that is wrong. Which is why I propose the compulsory removal of your uterus after your third abortion! :p

I would not terminate a pregnancy due to a birth defect...Does a baby not deserve to live because it isn't perfect? God will only give you what you can handle in my eyes and any child is a miracle and blessing.
