and data already on this computer - my goal is to access that computer from another one in another location that has windows xp home

tip: get an external hard drive to make a back up of everthing you want to save (this is just incase of a screw up and since your asking about it there is a higher chance)

now all you have to do it put in xp pro
and i think it will come up with something that is similar to upgrade

make sure you dont click on the option that destroyes everythin

it should guide you through instructions

for more help read the manual that came with xp pro that should have been your first place to look cos it has all the info there

You don't need XP Pro. The only difference in XP Pro is that it can authenticate on domains, or corporate networks.

When you run the install cd, choose the option to use existing partition, and overwrite previous windows version. The install should detect your other programs and keep them intact. Do NOT use the create new partition option!

as i have know if you're going to upgrade the OS you will loose all your programs and you have reinstall them again. better yet call Microsoft for that just to make sure ; their number is 1-800-936-5700 ;

yes by the upgrade. put the cd in and go through the steps very easy
