The one who punishes you most, is you.....you've got to come to terms with your "sins", whatever they were.....maybe you have the strength to do it yourself, or else you might wanna seek professional help.
Good luck.

Give this a read, let me know what you think about it. I think it will give you the answer you seek.

Are you living your plan for life, or God's?
God’s Plan for us: Salvation

There are many religions in the world. Each religion has its own way of doing things. They instruct people on the specifics on how to make everything right in their lives to please an impersonal God. Some live in fear of making a mistake. Some will kill for what they believe in. Others will live an endless empty life thinking that they are right in God’s eyes, but when death comes they will only learn that they have been deceived.

Now, it would be so easy to take Christianity and place it in the same category with other religions. If we did that, we would be taking everything that Christianity means and destroying it. I say this because it is very clear that Christianity is not a religion. Religion is man trying to reach up to God. Christianity is the complete opposite, because it is God reaching down to man by coming as Jesus and dying on the cross for the sins of the world. While religion never promises a close personal relationship with God, Christianity does. God wants us to have a close personal relationship with Him. That means that He wants to have this relationship with YOU.

Before I begin to discuss some of the verses that talk about salvation, and how God wants to have a relationship with you, a few things have to be understood. The first thing is how and why our relationship with Him is already broken.

In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve had the perfect relationship with God. They did not have a religion with Him. There was no long list of instructions for them to follow. Instead, they only had one command from God. The only thing that God had told them not to do was eat of a certain tree in the Garden (Genesis 2: 17). All that they had to do was follow this one rule and everything would be fine forever and ever. However, through the deception of Satan, and their own selfish desires, Adam and Eve both did as God had told them not to do…they ate of the tree (Genesis 3). This was the very first sin.

Because of this sin, many things changed. If you read Genesis 3, you will see what I am talking about. As you read and begin to understand these things, you will see how serious God took their disobedience. Of all the things that were now different, the biggest change was that their relationship with God was now broken. They had the perfect relationship with God (which is what He wanted to have with them) and they broke it. God was so heartbroken he even made them leave their beautiful garden home (Genesis 3: 23-24). They were now separated from the very God that desired to have the perfect love relationship with them.

Since the very first sin, sin itself has always been an issue. If you look at today’s world, you will begin to understand that sin is everywhere and it comes in many shapes and forms. The Bile says, “For all have sinned. All fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3: 23).” This means that even you and I have sinned. We all have made mistakes. Right? When this verse says…the glory of God, it is talking about perfection. That is what God’s standard for us is…to be perfect. However, we are not perfect. As this verse says, we “all have sinned” and none of us are perfect. Right?

When we sin, consequences come with that sin. The first consequence has already been established: Sin separates us from God. Isaiah 59: 2 says, “your sins have separated you from God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.” As with Adam and Eve, God wants to have that perfect relationship with us. However, because of our sin, that relationship has been broken and we are then separated from God. Because of the very sin that we have committed, we are not able to have a relationship with God. Even if we have lived a perfect life but only have sinned once, our relationship God is still broken. Sin is an issue that He takes very seriously, but as you will learn, God is also very quick to forgive any sin that we ask Him to forgive us for.

In addition to being separated from God because of our sin, we also earn a wage because of what we have done. As Romans 6: 23 says, “For the wage of sin is death…” We earn death because of what we have done. This death, however, is not just physical. It is a spiritual death of complete separation from God and a guaranteed reservation in Hell. Basically, we earn the right to go to hell because of our sin. God, although, does not send us there. Since sin is a choice that we make on our own, the punishment for our sin is also our choice. We can either take our punishment or receive from God the gift that the rest of Romans 6: 23 means when it says, “…but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Put all of Romans 6: 23 together and it says, “For the wage of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

God has a gift that He wants to give you. That gift is eternal life. He does not want you to spend forever in Hell. He wants the relationship with you that He desires and He wants to have it with you forever. 2 Peter 3: 9 says, “God does not want any to perish (Hell), but everyone to come to repentance.” Understand? This verse very clearly says that God does not want you to go to hell. He wants you to repent (Turn) from your sin and receive the gift of eternal life that He desires to give you.

Jesus says, in John 17: 3, “This is eternal life: that they may know me (Jesus) and that they may know my Father who sent me. “ How do you know people? By having a relationship with them…right? You see, as I have stated here and as the Bible says, God wants to have a relationship with you.

So far, I have talked about sin and its consequences. You have seen where the Bible says that we are separated from God and that we earn Hell because of our sin. You have also seen that God wants to have a relationship with you and doesn’t want you to be separated from Him or to go to hell. What I have not talked about is how a person gets saved. I have not yet described how a person moves from separation and Hell to having that perfect relationship with God and Heaven. This will be the next topic.

If sin separates us from God, and if He doesn’t want us to be separated from Him, there must be a way that our relationship can be restored. If there is way, what is it? Well, I’m glad you asked! That way is found in 1 Timothy 2: 5, which says, “There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” If sin separates us from God, then Jesus bridges the gap between us and God.

Picture that you are standing on a mountain and across a far distance, God stands on another mountain. Between you and Him, an abyss of darkness and horror resides. There is no way for you to reach God. Nothing you can do will bring you to God. Then, all of a sudden, a cross drops between you and God. The cross acts as a bridge. It mediates the two sides. It brings you to where you want to be…with God. You have a choice; either use the cross as your bridge or try your own way. Remember, you cannot get their on your own. You could try and jump, but you will only get so far. Everything except walking across the cross will leave you falling into the abyss. Honestly, the cross is your only choice. This is what 1 Timothy 2: 5 means when it says that there is only “one mediator.” Understand?

So Christ can bring me to God, but How? Well, I’m glad you asked that question as well. Remember when I said that God doesn’t want you to be punished for your sins? When Christ died on the cross, he took the punishment for you. Romans 5: 8 says, “For God demonstrates his loves for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ dies for us.” I want you to read this verse carefully. It does not say that Christ dies for us while we were trying to be perfect or make things right. It clearly says that He died for us “While we were still sinners.” Your very sin is the reason he died. He died so that you do not have to face the death that Romans 6: 23 describes. He died because He loves you so much that He died for you to show it. When he died on the cross, He gave us the right to be brought back to God.

So then, how am I saved? Another good question! You are full of them today. Ephesians 2: 8-9 says, “For it is grace we are saved, through faith, and this is not of ourselves. It is a gift from God, not by works, so that no man can boast.” The word grace means: unmerited favor. Grace is receiving something that we don’t deserve. So how does that save us? Since we were to be punished, God has given us the gift of Christ’s death, (which we don’t deserve) to be our punishment for us.

Look at it like this: Let’s say that one day you just get fed up with your neighbor. You decide that you are going to flatten all of tires on his car and break all of the windows out of his house. You grab a knife and a few bricks and you begin. As you are vandalizing his property, the cops come and arrest you. A month goes by and you have to go to court. The judge looks at you and sentences you to pay a $2000 fine and 60 days in jail. At that very moment your neighbors comes into the courtroom and says to the judge, “Your Honor, I know this person, and I have lived next to him/her for a long time. During this time, I have learned to care for him/her. Although he/she has done wrong to me and deserves to be punished, I do not want him/her to be. I wish to take his/her punishment for him/her. I’ll be pay the money and do his/her time for him/her.”

This story defines grace. Just as you have done wrong to your neighbor in this story, you have done wrong to God in real life because of your sin. However, as in the story, your neighbor shows up and wishes to take the punishment for you. Even though you do not deserve that, he wants to do it anyway. This is the same with God. He wishes to take the punishment for you in the form of the cross, even though you have done wrong to him. There is a catch though. In the courtroom, you have a choice. Either you can choose to let your neighbor take the punishment for you or you can take it yourself. The same applies to God as well. Either you can let Christ’s death on the cross count for you or you can take the punishment yourself. It is your choice.

I hope that you are understanding me so far. I hope that you understand what grace means. Now take the definition of grace and look at these verses again, “For it is grace we are saved, through faith, and this is not of ourselves. It is a gift from God, not by works, so that no man can boast.” Does it make more sense now? We are saved because of our faith in what Christ has done for us, not by what we have done. It is God’s gift to us. When it says works, it just means the good things we have done.

Well if I can’t do anything to get saved, then am I saved already? The answer to that is simple: No! I have mentioned that we have a choice. With the bridge illustration I said that we can either choose to let the cross be our bridge or try our own way, which when we try our own way we will fail. In the courtroom story, I said that you had to choose who was going to take the punishment, you or your neighbor. We can either choose to let Jesus bridge the gap for us through His death on the cross or we can try our own way and fall into destruction. It is our choice!

How do I make this choice? Romans 10: 9 says, “If you confess with your mouth ‘Jesus is Lord’ and believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” When the Bible was originally written, it was written in Greek. In the Greek context, the word confess means: to say the same as. If I am saying the same as someone else, I am agreeing with that person. Therefore, it means that you must agree that Jesus is Lord. When it says Lord, it doesn’t just mean that He is the Lord; it means that you are agreeing that He is your Lord. In other words you are telling God that Jesus is the boss of your life…not you.

Next, it says that we have to believe. It does not mean that we have to understand everything in the Bible. It just means that we have the faith in our heart to trust that what God says is true and that Christ died for us. If you believe this then you are half way there. There is still one more thing.

In Revelation 3: 20, Jesus says, “Look! Here I stand at the door and knock. If you hear me calling and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal as friends.” God is knocking at the door of our lives. There is no doorknob on His side. It is up to us to open the door for Him. I have also shown you verses that describe salvation as a gift. A gift is not ours until we open it. He is knocking at the door with your gift waiting for you to open up your heart and life to Him. Do you hear Him knocking? If so, then you can open the door for Him right now. As the verse says,” I will come in.” He wants to be part of your life. Let Him in.

How do I let Him in? First, confess that you have sinned, 1 John1: 9 says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Next, tell God that you believe in what He has done for and that you want His death on the cross to count for you. Third, invite Jesus into your life to be your personal Lord and Savior, and to be the boss of your life and not you. If you can do this then you will be saved, as He has promised.

The choice is yours: Either accept what He has done for you and spend eternity having that perfect love relationship with Him in Heaven or choose not to accept and take the punishment and be separated from God forever. If you are ready to make the right choice then do this: Clear your heart, mind, and soul, close your eyes and pray this prayer.

God,
I no longer want to separated from you. I want to have the relationship with you that you desire. I know that I have sinned and I wish to turn from my sin today. I know that I do not have all the answers, but I believe that you died for me and I am going to trust that your death will count for me. Jesus, I ask you into my heart and life to forgive me of all my sins and to be the boss of my life and not me. Be my personal Lord and Savior. I give you my heart.
Thank you for loving me and saving me. In your name, Amen.

If you can pray this prayer right now or something like it with the full desire of your heart, God will do as He promised and He will save you. If you do ask Him into your heart, please IM me or email me and let me know. I will be praying for you.
