They would hate us just the same. After all they are the ones who said, join Islam or die.....
Look what being passive did for France during WW11. If you do not let them know you are strong, they will walk all over you.

Remember those Rambo movies set in Afghanistan? During the 1980s when the Russians were there, the US built and armed the Taliban. About the same time when Saddam was at war with Iran, the US armed and financed him. Just after 9/11, Bush declared a crusade against the attackers. Osama bin Laden couldn't have done a better job of mobilising the Islamic world against America. By creating the Taliban, arming Saddam and later attacking Afghanistan and Iraq, America turned two regimes which, although nasty weren't terrorist threats to the West into just that. None of the 9/11 terrorists had any Iraq connections; just Saudi ones. And Saudi is a US puppet state. Their regime would have collapsed years ago without Bush's support. Bin Laden is a Saudi citizen, and that's where most of his money comes from.

No, of course not. Some of us believe that if we hadn't attacked Iraq we could actually focus our energies on defending ourselves against terrorists. (You do realize that Iraq didn't attack us and did not have the capability to be a threat, right?)

The Bush administration had Iraq in their sights from day 1. Then after 9/11 they were determined to find a connection to Iraq. They couldn't. So they kept saying 9/11 and Iraq together without ever saying there was a link and, surprise, people think Iraq has something to do with 9/11.

Rather than go into Iraq, we liberals think we should have finished the job in Afghanistan, hunted down Bin Laden, and continued to focus on the actual terrorists.

We liberals also think that we shouldn't have supported psychopaths like Bin Laden and Saddam EVER. Even when we help get them into power.

We liberals think that torturing people is not an American value.

We liberals think that our civil liberties should be protected. (That's what conservatives used to believe!)

We liberals realize that Bin Laden and a group of fanatics will always hate the US no matter what, but we also realize that if we were treating Islamic nations more reasonably the fanatics would not convince so many people to join them.

So, what's hard to understand about this?

No, give us a little credit. Bush gave them power by giving them a voice. That's the worst thing that any President can do about Terrorists. Hell, we didn't go after the right guy, Iran had nothing to do with the attacks on us. The Islamic Terrorists have always hated us. The rest of them didnt. They do now that we've invaded their country. This put all Muslims on alert around the world. You need to understand that their religion is a way a life and binds them altogether no matter where they live. You hurt one, you hurt them all. Just like us. Whats childish thinking is to hurt someone cause they hurt you. Before you even know the facts. Kind of play ground mentality dont you think?

No I think that there would be less terrorists. That our economy wouldnt be in such bad shape right now because those billions could have been put to a much better use. The radical islams hate everyone not just america. We are just the biggest target to them which they could hit us at anytime AGAIN because we are no safer than we were when 9/11 happend. I do not think that my reasoning is to childish.

Actually, the fact that America attacked Iraq over bogus allegations just fueled the fire. If we had concentrated more on Afghanistan, as we were supposed to, there would certainly be less people hating us. As Americans, we tend to make a fundamental if not fatal mistake:

The people of the World dislike the US not because of our values, but because our foreign policy often runs contrary to those values. The US is perceived as an arrogant, imperialistic, selfish country. But, we all know that that is absolutely false when it comes to our society and how we live alongside one another.

The only REAL way to rid our world of radicalism in all its forms is through EDUCATION. When people around this world prosper like we do, when they have food on their plates every day, when they have clean water readily available, when they are educated properly, when we make sure that "the pursuit of happiness" radiates everywhere, then fundamentalism and extremism will wither and disappear.

Do you ever wonder why the crime rate increases whenever the economy slumps??? Same applies to fundamentalism: Fundamentalism expands because it feeds off of the desperation of poor, miserable people. Without that poverty, that misery, fundamentalism will die by itself.

And one of the main culprits driving flocks of young, disaffected youths towards radicalism is globalization. The fact that wealthy nations are sucking the resources out of poorer nations and basically keeping them in adject poverty just makes these people easier to indoctrinate: Radical Islam gives them someone to hate for their predicament: the West. Until globalization benefits all, until wealth is distributed fairly, the capitalist system and its greed will drive us towards another major world conflict.

And NO, war will not help expand democracy. The current war in Iraq is not as much about expanding democracy as it is about expanding the enemy of democracy: capitalism.

no
it has made things worse. Saddam was anti Bin Laden anti Islamic extremist. He blocked the the Islamic extremist government of Iran, Bush has destroyed this.
Under Saddam there was rule of law , Christians could sleep safe in their houses in Iraq. Under Bush they are being evicted by Muslims, kidnapped and shot. There is less water, less power and the economy is a disaster. There was no justification for American invasion, it isn't just Muslims who hate you because of this unjust and tyrannical invasion, the whole world does. There has been a grudging admiration for your armed forces from the rest of the world but you have shown you cant even control Baghdad and your incompetent at administration.

Some Islamic terrorist hated you before now most Muslims hate you because of you unjust war. Additionally under Bush you have lost the respect and fear from the rest of the world. Bush reaction to Katrina was a disaster and showed more incompetence, Chavez shows more compassion for the USA's poor than Bush, perhaps he should be the next American president.

Oh and a new mile stone for Bush today more Americans have died in Iraq and Afghanistan than in the twin tower .....way to Go Dubbaya

Obviously, the person who posted this question is not a liberal/Dem, so probably he/she is a Conservative.
It may surprise the questioner to learn that many open-minded people of his party have figured out that Islamic anger is about American actions and is not aimed at individual American citizens.
Wars are fought by people of nations/religions and so we are taught to hate those groups. Then, when the wars cease, as they must, we are surprised to learn those people are much the same as us. Think of WW11 and our present relationships with the Japanese and Germans.
Many Muslim beliefs are indiscernible from our own. We may all, "liberals/Dems" and conservatives alike, yet learn that we can live with and respect them.

Is it not about right or wrong. It about killing and bombing. USA has funding and supporting antic-Islamic Nations long before 9/11. Just ask yourself this question what kind of person would you become--- if your family is killed, home and way of life is destroyed. We should not force fed democracy to countries, not every person wants democracy. The super rich of USA are playing checkers with people lives. Politcans do not go to war, the poor do---- from every race. They protect their investments with taxpayer money & blood.

Radical Islamic hatred of the US began long before our invasion of Iraq. Iraq just strenghtened their resolve. I'm not going to give you a MidEast history lesson because you probably wouldn't listen to it anyway. Turn off FoxNews and read a book, like "1000 Years for Revenge" by Peter Lance if you're interested.
