If you were born in Sicily, or are of Sicilian descent, I would like to hear from you. How do you feel about your Sicilian heritage. Do you still get stereotyped as having dealings with the Mafia? Do you think our society has gotten past that? I still have people who, upon my telling them that I am from Sicily, will jokingly ask if I'm in the mob.

my girlfriend's family is sicilian. actually, her great grandfather WAS a head of the sicilian mafia. but he moved to the u.s. to get away from it. i know people ask it jokingly, and i'm sure it gets tiring, but it's also kind of wierd to be asked that all the time and the honest answer is "well... you see..." and there's a lot of explaining to do!
i love her family though. many of the italian side have passed away. they left some great stories and even better recipes.

No Sicilian myself but I think the press doesn't help about the stereotype, mafia etc. But have to say the top show here in Europe is "The Soprano's" but we here know it not really like that.
Having to pick an Italian or American Italian. I pick the American Italian anyday. He hmmmmmmmmmmm that all I'm saying
