It would be wonderful if we could actually do this... but as always, the devil is in the details.
The sentiments in the song match communism's ideals perfectly. Some of history's greatest atrocities were committed in the name of trying to turn those ideals into reality.
It does make for a lovely vision, though.

i will probably get roasted but here goes...john lennon was a heroin addict and an absentee father. his first wife stated publically many times that he had a horrible temper. for someone who advocated no possessions, he lived quite comfortably. this song advocates living for the moment, that nothing is worth fighting for, that everyone should stop trying to acheive personal success. personally i dont agree much with any of it, but that is just my view. i also feel that lennon didnt live his own life according to this song, so why should others be expected to.
