I moved into my apartment about 5 months ago and there have been a few things I cant explain. The first thing, is I keep getting awakened by the sound of a single loud human clap near my bed. This has happened on atleast 8 different nights and usually only once per night. The first couple of times I just blew it off thinking I was hearing things that werent there. But when I was awoken by the clap sound 2 times in 1 night I became curious. Last night was the scariest, because the clap sound was very close to my head, and very real. It woke me up at 2 30am and I searched for anyhting that could have caused the sound but there is nothing I can think of. Another time I woke up in the morning, and found the drain plug from my sink sitting in the bathtub, and I have never messed with it before. There was also a throw rug messed up and laid over my shoes near the door, my doors were all still locked. I still have several months left on my lease but, maybe its worth it to get out?

As for the rugs/drain plug I had decided I must have been sleepwalking, I'm positive nobody got in to the apartment. The sound is definetly real and loud, like if your buddy was spacing out and you clapped in his face to scare him. Im very skeptical of paranomal things (including a god) so beleive me I've racked my brain looking for the source of this sound. Its not in the walls, its not muffled at all, sounds exactly like if you do a loud clap next to your head. However if there were some kind of paranormal activity why would it wake me up all the time?

One thing I can tell you for sure, there's a natural explanation for it. Paranormal activity is out of the question, it just plain defies the laws of physics.
Are you sure it's not either burglars or some kind of animal? And are you sure you don't sleepwalk? Both of those could explain the misplaced objects. As for the clapping sound, it's possible that some kind of plumbing or something inside a wall could make such a noise. One interesting idea would be to set up a camera trap wherever you expect something to happen, and see if you catch a picture of anything. Better yet, set up a piece of equipment to record any sounds in the room, then play it back at high speed and see what there is on it. That way you'd at least be able to rule out an illusion of a sound (which otherwise can certainly happen).

it is possible that you are experiencing poltergeist-type activity. but there could be other explainations as well. do you own a cat? they could easily be making noises and moving stuff like drain plugs or throw rugs, especially during the night. my cats liked to get what i called the 3 am crazies when they make all kinds of noise and knock stuff around. you mentioned sleepwalking. sleepwalking is pretty rare in adults. did you sleepwalk as a child? if so, then it is possible that you could have continued on with it into adulthood. if your parents arent aware of any sleepwalking activities from your childhood, then the chances of you starting sleepwalking now are very rare. try setting up a video camera with sound one night before you go to bed. dont tell anyone about it. it will let you know whether someone is messing with you or not. if you still cannot find an explaination, then the paranormal could be to blame. but if it is, why would events as trivial as these make you want to move? you arent being harmed, so you may as well stick around.

If it's not hurting you, then don't worry about it. After a while you will get used to it, or it will get used to you. I have lived with spirits all my life. Some people think if a place has spirits, it's haunted. Not necessarily. Every place I have ever lived I have seen, heard, and felt the presence of spirits. And they have never hurt me. Sometimes I get a little weirded out-you'd think I'd be used to it by now, but I'm not-but it comes and goes.
Life, for example, where I go to school at, sometimes really late at night I hear tapping on the keyboard of my computer. I sleep on the bottom bunk, and there are only 2 of us in this room-me and my best friend, and she sleeps on top bunk.
Sometimes the curtains move, and the windows are closed. When I lived downstairs on 3rd floor, I swore the bathroom was haunted. I would sighing sometimes when I went in there. And early in the morning, I would get up to pee, and the showers would be on, but no ones feet were visible. And we're talking 3am in the morning. And no matter how often I peed before I went to bed, I STILL had to go at 3am, every morning, it never failed.
So, again, if you're not hurt or too disturbed by these occurrences, grin and bear. Either you will get used to it or it will get used to you. But from what I can understand, so far all you have are noises and moved objects. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

You are getting a taste of what most people don't experience. Since it knows you are aware of it and suprised by its occurance this spirit will probably continue to attempt making contact. It may even push on the bed. Don't be suprised if you look across the room one day and see it standing there. It had happened to me. I've experienced the clapping and the appearances and things moving by themselves, etc. I have seen 5 different ghosts on different occasions but in the same house. If you live in a bad area of town the ghost could be a murder victim possibly gang related. Also look for funeral homes nearby or cemeteries. Not being religious isn't going to help you. Only prayers help in ridding a residence of a spirit. So good luck non-believer. :-)

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!
1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.
2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.
The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.
After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net
Ohhh..and Good Luck!

It almosy sounds like a spirit or enity is messing with you. I wouldnt worry to much just try to find a paranormal investagator in your area and ask them for help. It could be worse, I have a friend who was living in an apartment and her kids kept seeing things once is was a disorted mans face in a second story window.

You said you're skeptical of paranormal things, yet you have them happening in your house. How much more evidence do you need? Time to start accepting the fact that paranormal stuff does happen.

You are probably having problems sleeping due to snoring. For lack of a better description, snoring is when your nasal passages close and the air you breathe "flaps" through it. If this closure is tight enough you won't get enough air and your brain will wake you up...that clapping sound most likely is you catching yourself during your last snore as you wake up.
As for your rug....tack it down.

During sleeping time, "files" are being moved from one place to appropriated place by your brains... (Files from your unconscious part of memory are moved too...)
But still there's a part of your conscience which doesn't sleep, and this part can "mix" information that goes trough....
What happened to you is simply this...
Don't mind...
Normal...
