No, they're only useful for treating one another, after the doors are locked at 5 pm.

It's not so much that they help you by "fixing" your problems (they can't fix *your* problems) as it is that, by listening to you, asking you questions that make you think in a direction that your emotional state might otherwise prevent you from going, they provide you with the tools and the map you need to answer your own questions .... make sense?
Religious views, difference of lifestyle, none of that matters at all and rarely, if ever, comes up in a counseling session unless the client brings it up due to a need to resolve a conflict.
And, you don't know if they've never had any of your problems or not ;o) ... regardless of our individual exteriors, whether we're male or female, our interiors are very, very similar and emotional pain is emotional pain. It all hurts.
Best advice i can give you is to interview several psychologists until you find one that YOU feel very comfortable with. You'll get farther, faster, if you are comfortable. Start with a psychologist. S/he can tell you if you need a psychiatrist or not.
Good luck and i hope that whatever it is that is burdening you will be resolved without too much work. God bless ya!!

I am a highschool student taking a physology course. And yes psychologists can help you even if they have never been through what you have or dont share your religious points of view ect. They can help you because they have studied the human mind. && How it reacts to things. I am only on my first year of this course and school only started a month ago and i can tell you already it is amazing how it all works. I can only imagine how deep in a college course would go.
Hope this helps =)!

Yes because they are taught to be objective. Would you really want someone treating you that are/was in the same boat as you are. Besides, how do you know what they have experience. They do not discuss their personal life with you...

There are principles that will most likely allow them to help. Sometimes you need to talk to a couple to find the right one but they can most assuredly help a person if the person needs help and is open minded.

Yes, they are trained to look at behaviors that cause symptoms example- anxiety, depression, rage ect. They help you to have insight into your actions & habits that continue to cause reactions that are adverse to your sanity.

That's a very good question.
I think you already answered it.
Have you tried one from your background, and another like the one you describe?
