I rent them because if I buy a movie I am just going to watch it once and then just leave the movie somewhere. Renting is more practical and easy too!

Depends on your situation.
If you watch alot of movies(or TV shows on DVD) (ie college dorm, young children) than you might want to buy a handful of movies. I know that when i went through college we spent a good amount of time watching old movies over and over again, and plenty of time watching DVD's of family guy, south park, and so on.
If you just like movies i would say rent, but not your corner blockbuster store rentals. I use netflix, and it changed the way i watch movies. I used to watch movies like once a month or so because it cost like 12 bucks just to rent a few movies from the store. Now, i pay under twenty bucks and i easily see 5-12 movies a month.
The best part is, because i just pay a monthly fee, i can rent classic movies, TV shows, or new releases all the time. So if i want to see a movie again, i can hold on to it, or rent it again, no extra fee.
hope this helps

well if you rent the movie you know if you like the movie but then if you want to buy it you wasted your money on renting it. then if you buy the movie without renting it you may like it but there's a good chance you won't and you wasted about $20 on a new movie you will probably never watch again.
I just buy the movie and hope that my judgment on movies is good

Depends on how often you plan on viewing the movie. If you love it and will watch it again, buy it. If you only want to see it once, rent it.

I think it is better to buy the perviously viewed videos when they go on sale at the video store. They often cost the same as renting that movie.

I hate renting movies...they always get you with those late fees, and it winds up always being cheaper to buy the movie. Shop at Target... they've got great DVDs for sale for cheap! I got my dad "True Lies" for his birthday for $7, for example. Renting movies really isn't that much cheaper than that.

Rent, but only when you have time to watch it without worrying about late fees. Only buy if you really love the movie.
What about pay-per-view? You can tivo/tape it and watch it whenever you want, or keep it forever for the price of a rental.

If I hear good things I will see a matinee at the theatre, and then buy if i enjoyed it and feel i can watch it multiple times.
If i miss in the theatres i'll usually rent as a test run.

I rent movies, I don't care about, just for entertainment. I buy movies that I really like and want to keep and view over again and lend to friends to enjoy.
