i think hes getting awfully addicted to the flash bulbs, yearly ponding of retirement, hat tipping etc..maybe hell just go away already rather than holding teams hostage, and making it all about roger clemens.. remember the game where pedro was left in too long in the eight inning? clemens staked the redsox to a 5-1 lead through five innings and after seven and down by four runs he was out doing his curtain calls when the yankees were trying to win a seventh game there and go to the world series.. i saw that as selfish and all about roger rather than trying to win the damn game...

The only reason I'm not tired of Clemens' annual retirements and "final game" curtain calls is that I never took any of his retirement announcements seriously in the first place.

I figured when he 'retired' from the Yankees in '03, he'd be back pitching the next year... somewhere in Texas, where his family is.
I think everyone in baseball knew it too.

Even going forward, I'll believe he retires when I see an entire season without him out there.... until then, you have to take his talk of retirement with a grain of salt...

Plus, at that time (2003), he was still pitching extremely well, and I figure he'd come back in order to pile up some career numbers that will rank him with or near guys like Warren Spahn & Christy Mathewson/Grover Cleveland Alexander in terms of career wins... He's not gonna catch Walter Johnson, but he can get pretty close to these other guys, at the same time separating himself from Ryan, Carlton, Seaver, Sutton etc.

He also had to be aware of Greg Maddux's potential to win a lot more games as well...

Is this Roger's last season? ... I won't hold my breath one way or another... he's the greatest pitcher of the last 40 years, in my opinion (very difficult for a Tom Seaver fan to admit), but he won't be the first great player I've seen retire...whenever that day comes...

I'm sure I'll take his next retirement announcement with the same grain of salt, and one day, I'll be truly surprised when he DOESN'T come back.

Of course, I'm in my mid 40s... I've seen a lot of players retire over the last 35 + years...and I've learned that the retirement of a player, no matter how great, doesn't bring about the end of the world... and it's also fine with me if guys want to keep playing as long as they can... they don't get to decide what I do, and I don't get to decide what THEY do...

Yes i agree,Roger Clemens is what i call a pitching WHORE.He
prostitute's his pitching abilities to what ever club he's playing with.I remember when he told the yankees he was going to retire. They all bought him a hummer, then he signed with the Astros. After the first yr with them,Guess what?he was gonna retire again, then they made him a deal and they signed his son to a contract,Then he was leaving again,he had his agent put out feelers to see what offers he could get.I remember one of the things he wanted in his contract was to be able to travel back home to watch is son play ball,if he wasn't pitching with the team in that series,He's very selfish, and he's a BIG HAM!! i'm glad the yankees passed on him the second time around.Cashman said he was just too demanding.

Clemens comes back whenever he wants, doesn't travel with the team, and gets paid a ton of money. I guess special treatment never creates drama right? That doesn't happen in anyone elses job? How about we focus on Clemens getting named by Jason Grimsley when he was questioned about steroids by the FBI. You don't just name names to the FBI without having some kind of proof.

While I admire Clemens as a pitcher, he is taking the self-promotion thing a bit too far. In doing so, he places himself ahead of his team.

I would find it HILARIOUS if teams figured that out -- then when he tries to "un-retire" again, no team would take him!!!!!! :)

No kidding...I live in Houston, and I am sooo tired of this crap.

It's like the Rolling Stones - every time they go on tour, the marketing line is that "this may be the last time ever".

I've been tired of Roger Clemens for YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only thing worse than his behavior is the teams that continue to allow him to do it to them. Pathetic. All of them.
