Operate as you were solving an equation.

(2t + 5)/3 < -9

First, multiply both sides by 3

2t + 5 < -27

Subtract 5 from both sides

2t < -32

Divide both sides by 2

t < 16

Note: When solving inequalities the operator (< or >) changes direction if you multiply or divide both sides by a negative number.

3 > -4

If you multiply by -1

-3 < 4 is the result.
