Not that I can think of. US has crushed then built up other nations a couple times- Japan (post- WW2), Germany (post WW2) are the ones I can think of...

But helping and ending up helping too much and causing harm... I feel the jury is still out as far as the current situation in the Middle East is concerned.

That's a very tricky question:

'Helping' tends to come with a lot of strings, whether intended or not. Such as imposing values / laws on a country or creating dependence.

'Helping' and then leaving a bunch of people who have not been weaned off of the assistance is very common.

Many former British and French colonies are now disasters as a result.

The US (and formerly the British and the French) may have tried to 'help' countries, but they had to prop up unpopular governments to do that. When they leave, there is blood everywhere. Iran, Central America, Sri Lanka, Liberia.

True believers in certain causes believe that 'converting' other countries to do things their way is helping. Free market economists and Socialists/Marxists for example.

What happens is that the big hitter countries support one side in countries with 2 different groups that both claim that they are 'the governement.' The Chinese/Russians supported both North Korea and Northern Vietnam. The US supported the Southern ends of both countries. When you have a country's population divided down the middle on who the real leader is, which government is THE government ? The one that the US officially 'recognizes' or the one that other countries believe is the legitimate ruling organization ?

"Helping" always has a downside - very often it turns into "Enabling" and / or "Imposing Values and a Way of Life."

Vietnam in a lot of ways when the U.S went over was like that, they had to rebuild a whole new life style and country side, not to mention the effects both good and bad on the economy. Think around the Q," how much has a country had reformat after another country has entered? "should be the Q

When the Europeans and Americans helped bring Japan into the modern times, 1800's, 1900's. They were introduced to new and better weapons, Western culture, different religious beliefs, different ways of thinking. This led to a modern Japan, who turned this knowledge on the allies during WW2, and ruined their government in addition to killing millions, Chinese especially.

problem being, every country has ulterior motives when they "help" another country. so, the more they help it seems the more they have to gain or they are looking to keep their country's interests secure. so, with that in mind, most of the instances mentioned above aren't purely just being helpful-- especially in the middle east. we didn't just go into the middle east countries to help free them. it is all politically motivated, and also supposedly related to the safety of our country & its best interests according to some.

Gov't usually don't help other countries for nothing,; they want something out if it in return look at he continent of Africa, Native Americans, South East Asia. Help means "I know more than you and do it my way becuse you are wrong and stupid."

You could use the US in Vietnam. They assassinated the leader of Vietnam because they did not like the way he was running things.
