I get my mother a present, but that's the only person I will buy for in my family. And I don't expect anyone else to buy me anything. I hate the holiday too. It's nothing more nowadays than a sickening commercial holiday where idiots gather around the stores at 3:00 a.m. and then when the stores open at 6:00 the day after Thanksgiving, they rush in and grab everything they can. It's a holy day, yet for most people, it's all about how much money is spent, how many presents they expect, and how much food they can stuff into their mouths before they fall asleep. It's all pathetic and disgusting to me. So I no longer give the retail industry my hard-earned cash during the holidays. There'll always be other fools.

I have never seen a holiday bring the very best in people out, while also bringing out the very worst also like Christmas does. I have seen people argue and even fight over that last special toy that seemingly every child in America absolutely must have.
You are right, Christmas is way to commercialized now. Getting presents is nice and wonderful, but what about the greatest present of all? Jesus Christ is the best thing, bar none, that could have happened to this world. I am not perfect, I openly admit I am not perfect. But, by the blood of Jesus, I am perfect in God's eyes. I am not better than anyone else, I am just forgiven.
What a relief it was for me to get on my knees humbly in prayer and ask for forgiveness only to hear the Lord say, "What sin? That has been moved as far away as the east is from the west."

Christmas sucks. I hate the day after Halloween because while you are trying to buy cheap candy at Walgreens, you are starring at X-mas crap already!!! I am often told I am a Grinch because of the way I feel. No. I just have bad memories of the season. I have had many things go wrong during that time of year in the past (family death, loss of a job, health problems) when youhave "real" issues going on nothing bothers yu more thana bunch of nuts running around trying to find Tickle me Elmo. People need to put things into prespective.

There is still hope. My family is as tired of the commercialism as you are. We are doing something to change it. We have cut way back on the gift giving. My daughters make beautiful gifts for people and instead of tons of presents under the tree, we have one per person from each one of us. No one misses the tons of boxes. Have you ever taken stock of how much stuff you received that you never used or liked.? We make time for carols, church and the true meaning of Christmas. If you are disgusted in the way Christmas has become, you can change it. It takes a little time and some family members are a little harder to convince but you can make it happen.

Yes, it has gotten out of hand with the money thing, but there's still alot thats good about it.
ncjay08's best christmas was spent in Ft Lauderdale. A warm temperature christmas is real nice; christmas in the caribbean is even nicer. The egg nog, called 'ponche de creme', is wow, the foods like 'pastelle and garlic pork', are exotic, the music, 'soca parang' is full of vibe and many people are very spiritual and share in and with each other the true meaning of christmas.
Even without lots of money, its a wonderful experience, and its really up to us to make christmas what its meant to be.

I sure as hell do... TOO COMERCIALIZED... something is wrong when a business determines it's status and survivability based on that one season alone!!!!! People have lost the true meaning of Christmas (which by the was was originally thought up by PAGANS - that's right PAGANS NOT christians. Christians just stole that holiday). Go ahead, ask a child what he thinks about christmas and see what they say!!!!

It's nice to know I'm not the only one who absoutely dreads that time of the year. So many people being rude and running around spending money they don't have to buy presents for people they barely know. I stopped celebrating years ago and my stress level dropped way down. I just lay low and wait until Jan. 3. My best Xmas ever was spent on Ft. Lauderdale beach years ago. Maybe I should go back.

Ain't it the truth....It is up to each individual family to teach our children to be thankful and appreciate the gift, not the present. Maybe if parents weren't so concerned about spoiling their children so they can be liked, instead of respected, children would be more appreciative and giving. I love Christmas time, but I too hate that it has become so commercialized and all about Christmas shopping.

I love the holiday, but as you say, the hype and the commercialism is depressing. Plus, as I've gotten older and lost more family and friends, Christmas brings back memories that just make me sad.
I try to stay upbeat and focus on the "Reason for the season," but some years are harder than others.

To me Christmas in just a day off from work and I'm not sure what it is supposed to represent as it is celebrating what I believe to be a mythical being's birthday.
