You could make a wave bottle - you take a used water bottle (bottle water), take the paper off, put in half water and half baby oil (or other oil - but baby oil works best). Add some food coloring, the let the kids add other things - rocks, shells, beads, buttons, etc. Seal the top of the bottle with hot glue gun so they can never open it (it will be very messy if they do). Now you have a wave bottle.

This is a difficult one because the age difference between the two oldest and the youngest is a real issue for what can be done with all of them.My opinion is to buy one of the home craft books themselves (or look thm up on the net) and find a few options that can be done and let the kids choose which one when, with snacks and tv shows in between. By crafts I mean thins like egg carton animals and turning plastic containers into pot plants for the parents...things like that. Just things that involve textas (pencils or crayons for the 2 year old) and sticky tape. You can use paints or glue but be VERY vigilant with the 2 year old. I have a 1 1/2 and a 3 1/2 so I know that vigilance is everything. It shouldn't be too hard for you because th 5 and 6 year olds are getting to the stage where independance in what they do is important to them, so just try and find something they can be proud of doing themselves which isn't to challenging and be ready with lots of distractions for the 2 year old. Good luck!

You can make them play-dough from stuff in the kitchen. Recipe:
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
1 cup water
2 tablespoons oil
2 tablespoons cream of tartar
Food coloring
Mix the flour salt oil and cream of tartar, then add water slowly while stirring. Cook over medium heat, stirring, until it becomes stiff. Turn onto wax paper and let cool enough to knead food coloring into it. Divide into as many portions as colors you want to make. Mix food colors to get other colors. The kids can help with the measuring and the mixing so they will participate in the making of the dough, the cooking part is the only part they will just have to watch. Bring some utensils from home like a garlic press and a cheese grater to push the clay through for different effects. The clay is natural and non-toxic so it won't ruin your utensils. Have them make picture out of the clay using little pinches applied to a coloring book picture under a sheet of wax paper as a template. Show them how to make coil pots.

paper roses
six layers of tissue or light weight paper stacked
fold in accordian (fan fold)
secure the center, hair pin, tape, rubber band etc.
pull one layer of paper toward the center the turn and pull the first layer to the center on the opther side, repeat,
If you sued a rubber band, you can make a flower stem by snapping flower on a pencil
make a bouquet for their mom

paper bag masks
paper bag puppets make them then make a story
dress the stuffed toys in paper bag costumes
make paper dolls
and make a shoe box stage to act out a story

even a two year old can help, you just start with the 2 year old, let them tape or hold a glue piece till it dries, when the little one gets bored, then you can step up the pace.
but have a soft toy or book and let the 2yr old know to wait for the next turn to help.

Making cookies is always fun with little kids. Let them mix the dough with their (clean) hands and roll the dough into balls, or roll it out and let them cut it with cookie cutters and decorate with sugar and candies. The best part is that they get to eat them soon after they make them. Also, anything with glue, glitter and cutting paper is popular. Craft stores have cute little foam crafts for the holidays that are pretty inexpensive - you glue foam pieces together and decorate with pens or glue on "gems". Have fun!

You can make mask out of paper plates and construction paper. The little one can tear pieces of paper to glue on the mask and the older ones can use blunt sicsors. They can make any kind of face - animal, funny, scary, etc. You can even cut out the eye so that they can wear them.
