(I wasn't sure which one you'll read, so I'll put this in both)
There is no way to stop from getting virus/bacterial infections, but you can certainly prevent a great deal of it. You can not remain 100% healthy for your entire life, no matter what you do, but there are ways to reduce the chance.
Washing your hands:
*before eating
*before going to the bathroom
*after going to the bathroom
- if you're in a public restroom:
- - If not an automatic, roll down enough towels to dry hands
- - wash hands, make sure not to touch sink during
- - take towel, dry hands, use towel to turn off sink, use towel to open the door (there are usually trashcans everywhere, so just take the towel out with you (unless there's a trashcan near the door you can toss it in), careful not to touch any of the surfaces you touched the faucet or door handle with. Your foot, elbow, and hip are great ways to open/keep doors open.
*Try not to use anti-bacterial soaps when given a chance, they do not kill all of the germs, they just isolate the germs that are immune to the anti-bacterial. Regular hand soap is okay (liquid, not bar).
Healthy meals, never skip any if it can be helped
Vitamin suppliments, type determined by your diet
Excersize regularly
Over-the-counter sinus medicine can help during the worst periods.. Claritin, Musinex, etc.
If you work/go to school in a public environment, don't put anything (fingers, pens, etc) in your mouth.. desktops and keyboards are highly prone to bacteria and other such things.
There are pages of things you can do to prevent illness, so I'll just give you some of the most common ones. The biggest thing is to be aware of your surroundings. Take care of yourself and the biggest rule is: If you're not sure, it's contaminated (please don't take this to mean be paranoid, but some caution never hurts). Hands are the number one reason people get sick from environmental illnesses, people just don't think about how important they are towards health. I know it's a bit much to do some of this, but it's worth it in the long run!
Feel free to email me if you have some questions, I'll do what I can to help you.

there is no cure for the common cold and you cannot form an immunity to it. you should learn all of the technical reasons why in a high school biology class.
the best you can do is load up on vitamin C during the winter months, wash your hand frequently and especially after touching public things (shaking hands, public phone, railings, etc), and avoid touching your eyes, mouth, and nose with your hands. that helps keep the cold germs from getting into your body.

There are so many strains of cold and flu, you're bound to get one sometime. At the first signs of a cold, take Airborne or the generic equivalent. If it is a full blown cold, drink LOTS of water, rest, eat and drink things high in Vitamin C, and some people (myself included) think Garlic helps as well.

There are over 200 different types of cold viruses and I believe some mutate. You do become immune, just to that particular virus. They would have to make a immunization for every type and since they mutate, its hard to keep up. Thats one reason you take a flu shot every year, the viruses that give you flu mutate. Take airborne, I swear by it.

Unfortunately, the cold virus changes every year. It adapts to survive. The best way to prevent a cold is wash your hands. Colds are spread by droplet form. Each time some one sneezes, or coughs or cleans their nose, they can spread the virus. If you touch something they touched, you can get their cold. Luckily the virus is very fragile and dies within a short time of exposure.
Also make sure you are in good physical condition. If yo are run down because of lack of sleep or poor diet, you are more apt to catch a cold if exposed.

colds are viruses, so are flues, you are correct, we are immiune to these diseases but only the strains we have had so far. Aids is a virus like the cold +flu but the problem is all three mutate, we gain immune to one, another strain pops out

There is no cure for the common cold. It adapts far to quickly to the immunizations we have. All we can really do is to try to stay one step ahead.
But vitamin C and echinacea can really help fight it off. Lemon tea with honey is also great if you have a sore throat.
