In reality, the proverbial "blink of an eye" lasts only a tenth of a second, but that's all the time needed to clear away dust particles and spread lubricating fluids across the eyeball. Every time you blink, your eyelids spread a cocktail of oils and mucous secretions across the surface of the eye to keep your globes from drying out. Blinking also keeps eyes safe from potentially damaging stimuli, such as bright lights and foreign bodies like dust. So why don't you notice the world plunging into darkness every two to ten seconds? Scientists have found that the human brain has a talent for ignoring the momentary blackout. The very act of blinking suppresses activity in several areas of the brain responsible for detecting environmental changes, so that you experience the world as continuous.

First of all..there's usually a subconscious thing where you just KNOW if it's working.
The only thing I know to consciously look for is timing. You hold their gaze for just a little bit longer than is appropriate for straight men. If they hold it that long, or longer, they're into you. If they pointedly look away, and then really don't make eye contact again, they're not. If they look away and start looking nervous, they might. But they'll probably keep looking back at you.

Well, usually when you stare into the persons eyes.....Keep staring. If they pull away instantly, that could be a sign that the might like you, but dont want you to know. Or, they stare back into your eyes, and smile at you. If you attempt this, and they dont even look back at you, then forget 'em. they'll miss out on a good relationship.

Generally speaking, a straight man will not maintain eye contact with another man. Nor will a gay man who isn't interested. So if you simply smile (not a big silly grin, just a smile) and look him in the eye, if he continues to look you in the eye, you're in!
If he smiles back it's even better!

If they hold eye contact, or if they blink at the same rate as you do. Try blinking fast for a few seconds, and see if, a few seconds later, they follow suit. ;)

You can tell by their reaction. If they are interested, they will eye you back and you will know.
