Depends what you want and which country you are in. If you can already play and have learned on a jumbo and wish to upgrade to electric, then buy the best you can. I would suggest a Fender Stratocaster if you can afford it. Go for the American or Japaneses ones, not Mexican or Squier. If you go on to EBay you can get some real bargains. In England expect to pay from £250 upwards for second hand or £600 for A series.

I personally play in a 50's/60's band. I have two Strats, an A series and a 57 reissue, a 1968 Telecaster and a Gretsch Duo Jet.

it can cost anything from £70 to £10,000 it depends on what kind of guitar your after.
