I wouldn't mind watching commercials if it saved me over £100 a year. If the BBC got their way and charged £180 I would give up my TV. There is an argument that the independence from advertisers allows them to worry about appealing to the lowest common denominator, and while their nature programmes and series like Bleak House might bear this out, they still broadcast their share of rubbish.

Without a doubt the licence fee should be abolished and those idiots who knock on peoples doors are out of order the way they speak to people and treat them.
So get rid of the fee and the BBC police with it.

When analogue TV stops so will the licence fee, the BBC are looking to start subscription like Sky TV!
