Uh, we're still vibrant and yes, some people still live in hogans (not lived - like we're extinct). We enjoy sheep meat also known as mutton. We make mutton stew, roast the ribs, and make blood sausage with potatoes using the stomach as a casing. We have a'chee' which is sheep fat wrapped tightly with intestine that resembles a small noose. It's roasted over a fire.
Yup, we learned to use the crap given to us by the government to make frybread although nowadays many people make tortillas, or neneskaad, instead of deep frying it. We make steamed corn and white corn stew as well as squash stew, usually with mutton.
At a girl's puberty ceremony, there's alkaan which is a corn cake which I've heard is very similar to a sweet tamale according to a latina co-worker of mine. It usually has raisans in it. One of my favorite food is kneel down bread which sorta resembles a tamale but not really. It's a corn mush baked underground in corn husk. And of course there's corn mush eaten as a mush.
The rez in in Arizona, New Mexico and Utah but mostly in Arizona. According to our census, there's Navajos in all fifty states. So if you see one, say ya'a't'eeh and talk a while.

We used to mainly eat wild plants & animals and whole grains, then we adopted agriculture and began growing corn, squash, chile, etc. Now, like a lot of other tribes, there is a main focus on frybread. The Navajo Nation is located in the Southwest US in the states of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah, the 4 corners.

The once vibrant Navajo Nations were dominant in the Southwest region of America....Arizona,New Mexico,Nevada,Utah, Colorado, etc....now all that is left of these tribes reside in the Navajo Reservation . They once ate from the bison and other wildlife in this once abundant area for game ....now they are civilized for the most part and eat by whatever means possible....government supplied crap mostly ...This Great Indian Nation was once deep and plentiful until the white man came and destroyed everything and there culture...pretty sad!!!1

A very good book is Book of the Hopis, author.... can't recall.
Actually, some of them were vegetarians, and about a decade ago, there were 13 elders left that retained full knowledge of the full Spiritual heritage of the Navajo Nation. But, due to lack of interest, this knowledge was likely to be lost.
The main body of the people lived in Arizona, and at one time extended into New Mexico.

Navajo, or Dine -they call themselves, is the largest tribe of North American Indians. Long ago, the ancestors lived in Northwestern Canada and Alaska. Over 1,000 years ago they began to travel south and reached the southwestern United States. They met farmers who are known as Pueblo Indians, and the Navajo began to settle near them and learn from them. The Navajo learned how to plant corn, beans, squash, and melons. The Navajo also began to learn a similar style of weaving, making clothing and art from the Pueblo Indians.
The Navajo Indians lived in homes called hogans. They are made from wooden poles, tree bark, and mud. The doorway opened to the east so they could welcome the sun.
After the Spanish settled in the 1600’s, the Navajo began to steal sheep and horses from them. The Navajo started to use the animals in their daily life. They used the sheep for its wool to make clothes, blankets, and rugs. They also used the sheep for food. They used the horses to travel longer distances and also used them to begin trading. The Navajo began making items to trade in towns. There were also trading posts built on reservations to sell their handmade crafts, such as pottery and blankets.
The Navajo reservation is currently the largest in the United States. It has over 140,000 people with 16 million acres most of which are in Arizona. They still weave from wool and use natural vegetable dyes for color. Today, people live like the old days the best they can with the modern lifestyle, but others use modern technology to live.
