The last house on the left(1972)-two friends are kidnapped, tortured and later killed right behind their house. The kidnappers then go to the girls house where her parents find out what they have done and do the same to them. Just because its an older movie its still really scary.
Halloween(1978)-pschyo killer goes on killing spree. Spooky scenes and very scary music.
Friday the 13th(1980)-the first one is always the scariest.
Texas chainsaw massacre(1972)-the original is way scarier. The remake was bloodier but not scarier. This seems to happen a lot with remakes.
wrong turn-this was what the remake of the texas chainsaw massacre should have been.
The omen-the music makes this movie. and don't bother with the remake.
The exorcist-this movie gave me nightmare for weeks afterward. when her head spins around.

I LOVE scary movies... here are just a few of my favorites:
House on Haunted Hill - a group of people spend the night in a supposedly haunted insane asylum, and freaky stuff happens. Starring Famke Janssen, Ali Larter, Taye Diggs and Chris Kattan. I have seen this movie a million times and it still scares me.
The Exorcist - a little girl gets possessed by demons.
The Amityville Horror (remake) - a family moves into a house where some grisly murders occurred, and bizarre things start happening. If nothing else, you get to see Ryan Reynolds half naked.
Christine - based on a Stephen King novel about a possessed car.
The Shining - also based on a Stephen King novel, about a family that moves into a haunted hotel for the winter. Jack Nicholson goes insane and tries to kill his wife and son. It's a classic.
The Birds, Psycho, or anything else from Alfred Hitchcock - he was the master of the psychological thriller.
And for vampire movies, I'm partial to Interview with the Vampire.

The Ring, Don't watch the Ring 2, not very scary. The Grudge, the Grudge 2 coming out in October looks good. The Japanese version of the Grudge called Ju-On. Don't know if Ju-On 2 is any good. The Eye (in Japanese). Don't watch the Eye 2, not scary at all. Most scary movie sequels aren't good. Try getting some Japanese horror films. They're the scariest!

28 days later is pretty scary. About a manmade virus called Rage which wipes out virtually the whole of Britains population in 28 days. Survivors have to dodge the infected and stay alive. Some poor bloke wakes up from a coma to find London is completed deserted. Nightmare stuff.
The ORIGINAL Wicker Man is scary too

Not so scary by todays standards - here are a couple of films that have developed somewhat of a cult following...,
* The Omega Man {Charlton Heston}
Plague virtually wipes out the entire earth's population, leaving mutants and a very few normal humans alive. One man discovers suddenly that there are a handful of normal people and he has to save them BEFORE it gets dark...
* Race With The Devil {Peter Fonda, Warren Oats}
Two couples hop in their Winnebago for vacation and run into a Satanic Cult.
* Night of the Comet
Everyone is excited about the comet which is supposed to come really close to the Earth's atmosphere. People planned night sky watch parties for this event.., but what they got, no one suspected. Three human survivors encounter dangerous mutants and a hopeful rescue from a think-tank group of scientists.
My brief descriptions don't sound that great - but hey, they are worth watching if you like campy and interesting horror films.

Classic Dracula with Bella Lagosi, its not scary, anymore, but its the best vampire movie (in my opinion) I also like From Dusk till Dawn, not scary either, its rather campy, but, thats what makes it so good, and Selma Hayek as a stripper is cool too...
I dont know anymovies that scare me... maybe Brokeback Mountain, If I am ever forced to see that movie, I'll be terrified!
