i found a vinyl? glass storm door 80" high and want it to fit in an opening 83" high. can i do this with little or no headache and little cost, and if so, how?

you just need to fill in the top of the jamb with a 2.5 inch spacer. the door hangs from the side so the spacer does not have to be strong

Not really, because you most likely have another door in the that opening. Correct? See if you can "find" a door that fits.

you can build a header 2.5 inches down but it will look a little goofy when the solid door is open. get the proper size door.
