Im in ND so i was gonna right about the Alfonso Rodriguez trial and the death penalty, where could i get alot of Info on both?

How about the polarization of politics. The Conservatives and Liberals who would rather fight each other than work together for the good of the country.

Think of a topic that interests you then find a publication dedicated to that topic. For example:
You like skateboarding - Thrasher Magazine
You like dogs - Bark Magazine
You like movies - Entertainment magazine

Go to the library or bookstore and read a few issues of the publication to see what topics are important right now within that interest. Thrasher Magazine - Getting communities to build more skateboard parks. Bark Magazine - the canine genome project. Entertainment Magazine - are independent films getting a fair shake at the Oscars.

Then write a letter to the editor of that magazine giving your views/opinions on that important issue. It won't be difficult to come up with something to write if the magazine covers a topic in which you have an interest in the first place.
