It won;t burn from use .You need to have it serviced once a year by a professional. The condensor coils need cleaning. The fan motor may need oil. Change the intake filters 2-3 times a year .

I take it you're worried about it catching on fire from running all day and night. Nope, it won't burn.I bet your electricity bill is really high . I would call a technician to check it out to see if it is properly charged, that would stop it from running all the time. Have you changed the ac filter recently? Set the thermostat around 72 to 75 degrees. You can have the ac technician install a programmable thermostat, so the thermostat shuts off when you are at work, saving money.

If your home a/c is running all the time is it cooling, if not you could be low on refrigerant and need to have it checked by a hvac company. this problem could cause a compressor to go out and be expense to fix. If your getting a burning smell from the outside unit it could be the fan motor going out. If your getting a burning smell in side the house it could be the inside fan motor going out or if you have electric heat and it is not cooling the heating could be stuck on.

do you mean can it burn out? During the hot summer our a/c runs all day and night constantly, it won't turn off and on by itself so it runs unless iremember to turn it off.
it isn't good for it.
a few weeks ago when it was extremely hot and humid, our froze over. by froze over i mean it frosted over with thick ice in the outside unit and on the unit in the garage. i am sure it was the humidity that caused it. because we have always ran it constantly with very little rest in between. we also run it on about 60 all night.
just turn it off every now and then and it will be fine.
