I can't speak for all Americans, but we here in a Midwestern small town often talk about the world. I also have friends who've lived in the UK, France and Africa and we chat about world events all the time.
I think if you ask the average American high school student or equivalent they'll be apathetic because that demographic group is quite ego-centric.
However, the bulk of mature Americans from their 30's on up know better than that. All of my older friends who have served in combat speak highly of their British counterparts, the British courage, the British style, the British value system. Those in my age group praise the Brits for electing leaders with a conscience to high office even though the decisions made by their leaders are not popular. We are proud to have Brits as friends and allies and have no country we feel emotionally closer to than the UK.
God save the Queen!

They/we are fascinated. I'm an American who has been living in Britain for 20 years, going back and forth because I have the only grandson in either family. In both countries, I am treated as an oddity, but in America people are outwardly astounded that there could be someone who looks like them but talks so differently. They are fascinated with the whole idea. There may be a slight element of nervousness, but they get over that rather quickly. They really like the idea of a Queen, and have the notion that I "take tea" with her regularly. Sometimes I wonder if they'd have the same reacton if I said I worked at Disney World.

As an American, I do not believe there are sufficient numbers of Americans who know the people of Great Britain sufficiently to "think" one way or the other.
I do know that Americans my age hold in great respect the strength and tenacity of the people of Great Britain in facing down Hitler in the terror of WW2. I also know that music in America was greatly influenced by the Beatles, and subsequent musicians. Personally, I was passing through on my way home in 1956, aboard a troop ship, and again in 1983, at my Ph.D. ceremony in Birmingham. My own view is that the people of Great Britain have much more to manifest than has as yet been presented to the world.

You say us Brits have bad teeth, but the truth is so have most of you. It's just that some have dental insurance but from the horses mouth I have been told that the vast majority of Americans have teeth worse than ours. I think the state of our teeth has impoved Nine fold over the past 20 years.

well i guess i cant speak for ALL of us, buuuut i would say that the ladies are a fan of an accent. Any accent outside of our own country (other than Canadian i think) is attractive. We also think you guys have bad teeth, but i think we dont really mind because we really enjoy accents. I look at brits as somewhat arrogant as well, but i actually dont know any so this is all just from like movies and crap. On the dating side of it all, i think if youre a guy you have one up on all the american guys.

Andy, mate, I can not speak for all Americans, but as for this American girl I can testify to one thing I want everyone in the world to know: British men are the best lovers on Earth. Period. No debate. God bless 'em all.
