if the intensions of the questions were honest then i agree with this statement.

No such thing...only people who perceive it as such....depending on their mood or tolerance. I'm like that....some days I can answer the worst question...on other days....the same question would seem stupid....I either skip it or give it a counter question .....or say something indirectly insulting.
Apparently to be able to grow ...you have to ask questions that seem stupid....or you will remain ignorant.

I think there are lots of stupid questions but even more stupid answers.
In my world History class last year I asked the following question in class. "Why would the Russians use slash and burn tactics to destroy wooded areas, towns, and farms while the French approached during Napoleon's invasion of Russia?"
An answer that I received: "By removing trees and farms the Russians destroyed plants. This would severely limit the amount of oxygen created by plantlife through photosynthesis thus having the effect of suffocating the French soldiers and Napoleon."
Now that is a stupid answer.
have a nice day.

There is no such thing as a stupid question, but, and I am not referring to this question, there are many ill posed questions.

Some questions are stupid.
I had a friend who once asked a store clerk how much were his penny matches!
Now that's a stupid question.
This poor fellow died at age 19 by falling out of the open end of a pick up truck.

There is no such thing as a stupid sincere question.(except the one unasked.) There are, however, a plethora of stupid answers.

I guess STUPID as defined by Webster might allow that when one has nothing valid to offer, silence is the best course. That said,,, Who determines what I value,,or you, or others, as questionable?
I offer an analogy
Yahoo is a great example of what is often offered as INANE,,, in my opinion, by the asker. Does that mean it has no value to them? Sometimes.
Ignorance is not always Bliss, but it's way ahead of whatever is just behind it.

yes. i think the only stupid question is the one not asked. people are knowledgeable about different things in different areas, and their knowledge is not always quantifiable. for example: albert einstein theorized that "light has weight". at the time he made this statement, other physicists thought he was nuts because that theory went against everything we perceive light to be. now, many years later, we know that he was right. people should not be so quick to "rate" knowledge.

Nope! Teachers use it all the time to get their students to open up, but as a former teacher, I have to say I've heard a lot of stupid questions. Naturally, my students never knew this!
