The best way is to get a piece of iron or steel. Sand or grind it down so there is no other oxidation (there are several products of iron and oxygen). Dip it in salt water and set it on a wet paper towel. It will rust in a day or two. The red rust is Iron oxide.

By the process of oxidation.
If you have any elementary iron laying around, just ignite it , and iron will combine with oxygen, forming iron oxide. That is one way to do it.

2Fe+O2=2FeO [2 atoms of iron combined with an oxygen molecule makes two iron(II)oxide molecules).

Another way is by soaking it in water, and creating rust. That is the most common example of iron oxide.

Get something that's made of iron or steel. Get it slightly wet. Let it air-dry. Repeat until it rusts. The rust is iron-oxide.

Just by the name you would need iron and oxygen but the name doesn't imply how many of each.
