My friend continues to tell me the Mets and Yankees are doomed because they don't have the pitching. Is that true? Any stats available?

I don't have the stats, but it's well proven that good pitching will shut down good hitting. But don't count the Yankees out for that reason. They always seem to find a way to win.

They have good pitching this year, maybe not the greatest,
but good enough to win it all.

Just look at how pitching helped the Dodgers in 1988. The A's were the highly favored offense team, and the Dodgers were the underdog pitching team, and look who won in 5 games, without their best hitter in 4 of those games (and only as a pinch hitter in one).

yes, just look at the white sox last year. the astros had an great lineup and got shut down.and look at what is happening to my team the Cardinals right now. lost 6 straight and will not make the playoffs if the pitching doesnt improve fast.
