You need a diet low in "Purines." Look up purines on the internet, and you should get a list of foods. It's mainly meats, cheese, steaks, dairy, etc.

100 years ago, when a person got gout, it was known as "The Rich Man's Disease" because only rich people could afford to eat the foods that are rich in purines.

Most people feel the gout pain in their feet, especially the big toe, and it can be VERY painful.

There is also a prescription medication just for gout, but before you try the prescription, try to treat it on your own by adjusting your diet to low purine. If that doesn't work, then consult your doctor about a medication. I think the medication is called "Indocin" but I'm not positive.

All medications have a side effect. Even aspirin has side effects......so if you can possibly treat this ailment naturally, that is what I would recommend for you to do. The natural way takes more thought and effort, but your body will thank you.

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!

Cherry juice really helps gout. Even though I am not positive what you can eat to get rid of gout, there are a lot of things you should avoid eating. Meat gravy is a big one, deli meat, pretty much anything with acid in it, like sodas, I have found eating pork and peanuts also aggravate it. I also would go to the doctor, and ask them to put you on a medication that helps prevent gout attacks. They usually can give you a more complete list of things to avoid and things that help. That will make a huge difference. Avoiding the attacks is much better than combating them once they happen. Good luck! And go get that cherry juice!! It is going to be a fast help until you can get into the doctor!

A diet low in purines is prescribed. Organ meats, beer, wine, and certain types of fish contain high levels of purines.Avoiding alcohol, high-purine foods, such as meat, fish, dry beans (also lentils and peas), mushrooms, spinach, asparagus, and cauliflower, as well as consuming purine-neutralizing foods, such as fresh fruits (especially cherries and strawberries) and most fresh vegetables, diluted celery juice, distilled water, and B-complex and C vitamins can help.
A strong natural cure is a berry extract supplement consisting of bilberry, blueberry or cherry extracts. Food to avoid:
foods high in purines
sweetbreads, kidneys, liver, brains, or other offal meats
sardines
anchovies
scallops, prawns, and crabs
alcohol. Some claim that this applies especially to beer, on the basis that brewer's yeasts are very rich in purine. In view of the fact that most modern commercial beer contains trace amounts of yeast, this claim requires substantiation. Others claim that red wine is particularly bad for gout, though again it is difficult to find an explanation. Alcohol may also reduce the rate of uric acid excretion.
meat extracts, consommés, and gravies
diet sodas (these act as diuretics in many people, causing uric acid to concentrate in the blood which can then easily precipitate)

Gout is caused by crystals forming on the cartilage of joints. It is also caused by formaldehyde poisoning, where the cartlidge becomes brittle and wears out, so causing inflamation.

Avoid Aspartame, drink Water and also I would recommend Aloe Vera Drinking Gel to help repair the joints.

it is a build up of uric acid

Avoiding alcohol and rich foods that are high in purine (e.g., scallops, sardines, red meat, sweetbreads, gravy, cream sauces) also may help to prevent the condition.
