I'm entering a written essay for a contest, it's for the VFW vioce of demacracy, and this years theme is Freedoms challenges. And they said not to use poetry and music, do you think that would also include the bible????

You could probably use the bible.

Quoting from the bible wouldnt fall into any of those catagories. But if you are not sure contact the people running the competition and ask for a copy of the guidelines for the contest.

I think you should be fine using the bible, because it doesnt fall into any of the categorys. You should be able to get the guidlines and a list of rules if you want to double check just to make sure though.

the only parts of the bible that are poetry are the psalms and some specific songs (like marys song after being told about the birth to come or miriams song after crossing the red sea) So I guess it would be ok to use parts of it.

Not as likely to win in that case, as the judges will undoubtedly be aware of political correctness, but if you feel strongly about it and just want to get your thoughts down, why not?
