I think I have a Carbon Monoxide leak in my apt and was told to hold match under the flue to check, if the match went out then there was a leak! Has anyone ever heard of doing this and if so does it work?!?!?!

Using a match is what techs do to check the vent on a natural draft appliance. Like everyone else said you should invest in a CO detector first. Walmart sells them now for less than $ 20.
Next call your gas co. to come and check your place, no charges from gas companies for safety checks. They will have a detector to check for problems which could be present only when a unit is on.

Holding a match down there is not wise. Carbon Monoxide is what it is because it is incompletely burned. Carbon Monoxide, therefore, will burn.

I would call the fire department and take their advice on what type of a device to buy. You can buy them at Lowes or about any electrical supply.

In the meantime, you can check the people who live in the house to see if the amount (if it is there) is strong enough to start having effects on the people who live in the house. Look for bluing color in the skin, lethargy, etc.

Go to Home Depot or Lowes and get a Carbon Monoxide tester.

If I thought a gas was leaking into my apartment, I wouldn't put a flame to it. Go out and buy a carbon monoxide detector, esp. if you're feeling abnormally tired all the time. You can get them at any hardware store.

First and foremost, get fresh air into your house! If you suspect a carbon monoxide leak, call the fire department and let THEM check for you. Your priority is safety!

Do not do this, go to lumber yard buy a carbon monoxide detector and plug it into an electrical outlet. If it starts screaming, you have a problem. Contact your fire department and get out of the house
