By your use of the "flatmate" I am guessing you are in the UK. Check with your local postal service if there is a law against opening another persons mail and if so then report him to the authorities. In the US he would be breaking a federal law.

You need to file a complaint against him if you know for sure that he opens people's mail regardless of the fact whether he opens yours or not. He has no right to do that. If he is only a tenant, he is supposed not to rent out the extra room. It's up to the landlord to decide. Talk to him calmly about the issue. If it doesn't work out, get him evicted from the flat.

Mail yourself something nasty.....

Seriously though, plan to move out if you can. This kind of behavior in adults in not attractive and is hard to change. He'll just keep opening your mail even if you confront him. In the meantime, pay for a post office box and get your mail redirected to it. Good luck.

Just keep your mouth shut and look for a better place, unless you are satisfied with the one you have, in which case, it's not that important. You could say, " I hope you don't open my letters", but it might backfire. James

Well, judging by your heavy accent I'll assume your not from the U.S. There are laws here covering that. Also, since you feel compeled to ask for advice here I'll assume you haven't the, .............how do you say it?..............Stones....... to deal with it "personally", so I will say get a post office box.
