Is it possible to have something lodged in your windpipe? It's not a matter of not being able to breathe, but more of an annoyance. No matter how much water I drink, it won't go away.

It is very possible to have something lodged in your windpipe. If you think that is the case, you should go to the doctor or emergency room right away.

Sometimes, you can get a feeling like there's something stuck in there, when there's really not. It feels like a pill caught halfway down. I've had that happen to me, and many people I've spoken to have had a similar sensation. I'm not sure what causes it, but if you're not sure what it is, I'd speak to a doctor, to be sure it's not something that could harm you.

Your windpipe and your esophagus are two different tubes. They split at your throat.

Your windpipe will take air down to your lung and your esophagus takes water/food/etc to your stomach. So most likely whatever's "lodged" in your windpipe is below where they split. So drinking water won't do a thing (I mean that's why we don't drown from drinking water, but cough like mad when water "goes down the wrong tube")
