It is a good question dear! but why you are searching Guruji! If you have earnest desire to aquire the great knowledge of SELF you will get it. Dont waste your time in searhing the Guruji but utilise it in acquiring the knowledge. You can get it through different mediums like books, discourses by learned people. As a learner or Sadhak one should try testing the knowledge of Guruji or verifying the system of Ashrams! When you yourself are in a learning stage how can you try to judge other's spiritual mastery? Better concentrate on widening your own knowledge in the field. Even Shastras says that Guruji comes in search of his Student at the right and appropriate time!

When we walk on spiritual path, we are alone. This must be clear within.
It does not matter who is around that place.. A very good doctor naturally attracts chronic and acute patients. We go for our need and not get too much involved, else we get addtional 'infections' !
There are types of shisyas...
Look at the four types of attitude of a shisya...
Let me see how much he knows
Let me see what suits me
Let me somehow learn it.
Let me trust him and surrender to him.
We have to see where we fit in ! You can easily guess how tough it is for a Guru to work with these four varieties !
It is believed, on spiritual path, the guru appears when shisya is ready !

You have well described the religious shopping complex. One can choose from the various displays what is needed. Adi Shankara has written about guru... Akhanda mandalaakaaram.... please go through with meanings. Your bhakti sitting can be best done in the confines of the house. It is totally as per your prarabdha to get a teacher in this janma.

When you firmly believe in God and that He will help you find a Guruji, one will cross your path. You have to be patient, devoted and believing. Don't let all the things that go on in ashrams bother you.You have to condition yourself to keep your sight on God , not everything else.

Search for the right guru by all means, but you don't have to be his/her best shisya, only a deserving one. It is not a competition - (show some humility).
