Strange how everybody commenting here on this case seems to know what the appropriate punishment should be far better than those who were in court and actually heard the evidence.
What do I think? I don't know enough about this case and unlike you lot, this stops me expressing an opinion.

6 YEARS??!!! That's a joke, but no one's laughing.
If you murder someone, you should be locked up for at least 30 years, if not life, with life meaning life, and you should serve every single day of your sentence.
Now, I'm not really in favour of the death penalty. Not for the usual 'it's inhumane' reason, but because I feel that it can be seen by the offender as a means of an easy escape. I believe they should be made to genuinely suffer for a long time whre they belong, and no longer posing a danger to the rest of us.

where i live 2 brothers owned a night club. because of thr pyrotechnics they allowed to be used more than 100 people died.the men were sentenced yesterday. one will serve 4 years the other one no jail time at all. he has to do community service. the other bother will be on probation for 10 years. a judge let a pedophile and suspected murderer go because one of the lawyers was late.i kid you not. a life for a life is the way it should be. and the judges should be tried as accessory to murder. murder=death

Strange, it just shows you that the laws in are land are incredibly stupid. Heard about the guy who raped a baby and got a short sentence. What is this law comming to. In the prisons its like a holiday criminals can watch televisions and do courses they even get paid for working why? This sort of treatment and laws gives criminals and depraved people insentive to commit these kinds of crimes. It really saddens me to what the world is comming to. There are people in prisons that are also innocent and have done no crimes and are blamed for something they havent done I am not talking about those people I think there cases need to be looked at closely.

No,it most certainly is not right.A person loses their life,so the person who took the life should spend a life incarcerated, simple really. For hard core, factual DNA results(beyond a shadow of a doubt-remember that one!)the death penalty should be brought back.No messing about, time to get tough.

Well, the punishment a person receives for committing a crime is based on many factors, first and foremost where they live, what the laws are governing where he lives, the facts surrounding the crime (why he did it, what he did, etcetera), if he had a prior record, and so on.
Unless you're asking on a moral level, in which case, no, it most certainly is not right.

No it is not right for someone to stab another person. As for the six years. Who invented that. Could not answer that. But to stab someone is not right.

You essentially wrote a 'headline' or sound bite in your question, which doesn't really give anything substantial for anyone to frame an intelligent answer. Cases like that are complex and can't be suitably described in one sentence.

NO DEFINITELY NOT! Six years is way too short. In six years (Or less if he has a good solicitor who can get a re-trial) is too short because in six years he will murder again and what happen then another six years.
