If this problem is recent and your computer was functioning properly sometime ago, you may very well have a bad board. With the power disconnected, open up your computer and check for any leaking or burst capacitors. If you see any, replace your board. Also, check the CPU fan and make sure it's functioning properly.

Hi there,

It sounds like trouble! Your computer very well may be overheating, however most likely you have a virus of some kind!

You may want to try some PC scanners at the suggested site under briefing room and downloads. Hopefully, you can boot into "Safe Mode with Networking" assuming you have high speed internet; by pressing F5 right (and hold)after the keyboard lights flicker. This will bring you into Windows with the Internet still working...hopefully. Good Luck!!!

Any answers that say check voltages & connections are good - any that say "run this or that" didn't read your problem.

If you are under warranty, get in quick & let them fix it.

If those things don't fix it then you should look at replacing the motherboard. Possible that you got a virus that wrote into your BIOS chip [since they can be updated, other things can write there too] and that can be replaced but takes an expert to check it out.

This might be due to your CPU overheating. Have you recently add any new components to your PC? Another possibility might be a virus try to boot up in safe mode and run a virus scan. If you are using Windows XP hit F8 key to select safe mode when your PC is booting up.

sounds to me like a possible failing hard drive... i would check the voltages comming out of one of the leads with a DMM (digital multimeter) to see if the voltages are erratic... if you don't feel like doing this just replace it... if that does not fix it examine your motherboard, you may have leaky capacitors or another component that is starting to fail.. sounds to me like a power supply issue though. so definately check that out..

Phatom, you should bring your computer into a computer store and get them to troubleshoot it for you. From your descriptions, its almost impossible to troubleshoot it without working directly on it.

Its better to pay and get it fixed, than to keep at it and not get anything done. Unless you can afford not to use it anymore.

the most common problem is that some of the connections are not plugged in, they are loose.

reword your question better, and give exact details of what the machine is doing and what you have tried to do to solve your problem.

It could also be a virus.
