I think they do. To be better at something you aren't good at usually entails visualizing yourself doing that thing you want to be better at. Being the best at it.
What do you think?

Of course it's not all about visualization. You have to get out and do it, I assumed that was obvious. But it helps when you aren't very good at something to have your dreams to back you up and drive you onward.

I think imagination is one of a variety of skills important for self improvement. As an example, many olympic athletes use visualization as one important skill to improving their athletic performance. But they also need to workout, eat properly, and already have the innate athletic abilities required to perform their sport.

On a slightly different note, Abraham Maslow also suggested something similar in his description of people he believed to be self-actualized (scientists, writers, etc.). In addition to being spontaneous and imaginative, to be self-actualized (to reach one's ultimate vision of the self), they also had to have accurate perceptions of the self. In other words, in addition to imagination, one must have a firm grasp of reality.

Nope. Unless it has something to do with creativity. Visualizing yourself doing that thing you wanna do to be better at it has nothing to do with being better at it. You must practice or study it to become better at it.

Self improvement requires self reflection.
Imagine limiting imagination to ones self.
Ridiculous.

It is important to imagine positively but in real world you also take realistic step to fulfill your dream.

i agree, but because I believe that you have to visualise what you would want to be - to know what you want to become...I think it is a mistake to want to be like someone else, we have to want to just be ourselves at our best.

Not always, if you spend all your time dreaming, you never do anything.
