kevin... there is such a thing as too much information. especially when it isnt focused...

i thought it was ok. it was something of a combination between the magical realism of his earlier works and the more realist edge of his middle period. it will be interesting to see how he develops this new voice in the future.

while i enjoy murakami's works, the problem is that they tend to be very similar to one another. so i think his decision to experiment with the voice and tone of the novel is a good one. it wasnt as compelling as i would have liked but it was a fun read.

however i read it in japanese and i have no idea what the quality (or lack thereof) of the english translation is. but murakami tends to get the very best translators so i am sure it is reasonably close.

Yes I loved it - can also recommend his collection of short stories called Birthday stories. Only one is written by Murukami but the rest are wicked as well. I don't always like short stories but collection is awesome!

I don't think it was as good as some of his earlier books. I found it convoluted and dare I say it, a bit self-indulgent?
