My 11 month old baby is no where near crawling, he hates being put on his tummy and cries constantly until I pick him up. He is my 3rd child and I worry because his brother and sister were crawling before 7 months. He can walk in his walker but wont pull himself up on furniture or go from a sitting position to lying down or rolling. I have taken him to pediatricians and they have ruled out any disorders by blood tests, even though he is smaller than most his age.
Is this unusual that he is not crawling by this stage? Are there any tips to encourage him to play on his tummy and learn to crawl????

Every child develops at different times. I wouldn't be too worried about it. A lot of children walk before they crawl. My daughter started too walk before crawling and I was shocked. It's up to him. Just keep on encouraging him to walk, if that's what he is interested in.

You should contact your Early Intevention office and set up an evaluation for your son. The evaluation (and any therapy, if needed) is free of charge. While it's true that many babies do not crawl (they just skip it and go to cruising and walking instead), I'd still be concerned that he's showing no interest in pulling to stand and can't go from sitting to lying down. It sounds like he has some sort of developmental delay going on.

You might also consider seeking out a Pediatric Neurologist. I understand that you have ruled out some things through blood tests, but Neurological disorders (such as Cerebral Palsy) can't be detected that way. They may want to do an MRI to see what's going on.

And please don't worry about "worrying". I have a feeling you have a "gut" feeling here, and you shouldn't ignore it. If all turns out well and your son's evaluation by Early Intervention and the Neurologist turn out fine, at least you'll have peace of mind. But if you don't take those steps, you'll continue to worry; and there's no one who can tell you not to.

GOOD LUCK! I hope everything turns out ok with your little boy.

Believe it or not some babies dont crawl they just start to walk and even tho your other children did this you have to remember he is a different child but by the looks of your post you are really worried the best advice is just to keep a diary of him and note down every thing he does he may try little things you may have missed to encourage him to crawl you cant really because he doesnt want to and you will just make him frustrated if the peds say there is nothing to worry about then please dont and just enjoy him he will devlop to his next stage when he is ready

Get rid of the walker for a while. Your baby needs to develop his core muscles and the only way he can do that is by being on his tummy. Whilst on his tummy, put interesting things for him on the floor to play with, with different colours and textures (you could go down next to him on the floor on your tummy too). Increase 'tummy time' by a little more each day. Once he gets the hang of being on his tummy, then you can gradually start moving the toys a little further away so he has to reach for them.

You ruled out any disorders. You have a very smart baby and a laid back little guy I'll bet. Relax and don't pressure him to crawl. enjoy your freedom because once he is mobile you are mobile after him. Maybe he will never crawl he may just stand up and walk. All in due time when he is ready. You need to relax and enjoy.

Our son didn't crawl until 11 months, then walked at 13 months. After that, all bets were off and I longed for those non-mobile days!! :) He loved being upright, however, from very early on, and liked to ''stand'' with support holding on to stuff much before he crawled. We enticed him with toys just out of reach, but didn't sweat it too much, and he eventually did it himself. I figured out, at least in my case, that the more I seemed to stress about it, the more he picked up on it in subtle ways and got frustrated easier. Maybe mention it to your pediatrician, but it sounds like you're right on track.

Well I wouldn't keep picking him up just to keep him quiet. I would keep putting him down and let him cry if he has too. He might have something wrong (but you said you went to the dr about this) or he might just be relying on you. If you are always there then he may never crawl. Plus some babies just don't crawl they just walk and he could always be just a late bloomer!

No two children are a like, as long as any neurological disorders have been ruled out by qualified specialist I would say have your other kids get down in the floor with him and encourage him, toddlers respond usually to other children better than adults! Peace and patience!

Make sure you consult his pediatrician about this. My aunt had the same problem, and it turned out he needed physical therapy in order to get him crawling. He had muscle problems and his mobility was delayed. I hope this is not the case with you, but definitely ask the doctor just to be safe! Good luck.
