It is a matter of opinion. Some people think its the same thing. Some think that passing out or fainting is related to fear, severe pain, or emotional distress. Unconsciousness is when a person is unable to respond to people and other stimuli around him or her. Often, this is called a coma or being in a comatose state caused from a variety of things from head trauma to overdose.

when u pass out u generally come round quite quickly (say within 5 minutes) unconscious means staying that way for a much longer period of time

Passing out is fainting. Being unconscious is staying in that fainted state.

when you are unconscious you do not feel any pain when they put needles into. you where when you pass out you would be able to feel something and you would come round very quickly and you would feel pain
