I have a lap top and I have DSL but the only way I know how to connect to the internet is by using the modem while it is connected in the USB port. I really would like to have no wires so I can take my computer anywhere and not worry about being connected to the modem. I have a wireless router but like I said I have no idea how I can connect to the internet withoout using the modem on the USB port.

Your modem should be plugged into the Ethernet port of your wireless router and your router should have the DSL cable line coming into it's Ethernet port. The run an Ethernet cable connection for one of the LAN ports of your wireless router to the back of your PC. Now you can use your laptop without cables anywhere within the range of the WiFi capabilities of the router. If you use the laptop outside the range of the routher then you will have to be in some proximity to another WiFi capable internet source which in most large cities are abundant. You can upgrade the Wireless Ethernet card of your laptop to increase its output signal search as well.

You'll need to purchase a wireless internet card. It plugs into the laptop, and picks up the signal from a "hotspot" so you can log on.

You can get a wireless card at Radio Shack, a computer store, or other fine retailers in your area.
