How far along are you? You are doing the right thing by going to the doctor! You and the baby will both be healthier for it.
I just had my first OB-GYN appt for my preg, and I am 8 weeks along. It took 2.5 hours, in part because they had trouble drawing my blood (since I have tiny veins). The doctor asked me lots of questions, including the age & ethnic background of the father as well as his parents.
Plus, I gave a urine specimen, got weighed, had blood pressure checked, they took 5 little vials of blood, and also a pap smear and pelvic/gnyecological exam plus breast exam. I felt it was VERY comprehensive. Plus he gave me some samples and a prescription for PRESCRIPTION prenatal vitamins.
I also had my first ultrasound a few days before that.
A great book to read is
"What to Expect When You're Expecting" Get the latest addition. Gives so much info and you will feel more assured. Tells you what they do at each doctors appointment and what each month/trimester is like. Gives lots of questions and answers. Very informative.
Good luck & congrats. Don't be nervous.

I was not nervous when I went to the OB for the first time, I was excited!! I thought I was going to have a look at my baby in an ultrasound but it didn't happen all we did on our first visit was to talk about pregnancy, things to look forward to and they sent me to the lab, I had all kinds of tests done that day. They also gave me all kinds of goodies like a book to keep track of my pregnancy and what to expect on each visit, a huge mug which I use to drink tea, my baby's first formula ( I want to breastfeed though) and lots of information about pregnancy and excercising and pregnancy and healthy eating.
You should not be worried about it, everything will be fine, and usually doctors and midwives in the OB clinic are very nice! they love working with pregnant women and babies. Good luck!!

You have absolutely nothing to worry about. The doctor will give you some information that you need to know. Along with what my doctor told me during my first appointment, she also gave me a package full of information for me to read as well as a sample of prenatal vitamins. This is your opportunity to ask her/him any questions you might be concerned about or curious about. Make sure you write your questions down so you won't forget.
Congratulations!!! This is a happy time!

I'm on my 3rd pg and still get so nervous. I almost always get a stomach ache when I have to go. I loved going to the dr, but got nervous everytime!! It's perfectly normal.
I don't think you need to be nervous, but it's perfectly natural to be. Good luck! Hope you get some good news!

on the 1st visit at my docs office I dont even see the doc, I visit with the OB nurse, she goes over insurance, Co pays, takes blood, blood pressure, weight, pee in a cup.,
I go back in 3 weeks for my 1st sono, and then end of oct for my first EXAM with the doc.
CANT WAIT!
even the exam is fine, its not any worse than a pap smear!
Actually its better, at least you have an agenda in the end.
ha ha
GOOD LUCK!!!!

Nothing to be afraid of...all they do is an internal exam..weigh you, get your history, take your blood pressure..nothing too it.
