A high school in Ohio gives an annual scholorship to an "Outstanding African American Student" who is nominated and voted for by the students. Last year, the kids nominated and gave the money to a white kid, who happened to have been born in South Africa, and his family moved here and became citizens, making him by definition, an African America. Well, needless to say, the black kids went nuts and protested...whats your spin?

That is perfectly logical - the title says nothing about skin color and that student certainly has some very direct ties to Africa. Should the scholarship be titled "Outstanding Sherwin Williams Mahogany #15 or darker Student"?

There are white and black in South Africa. So if a white kid was the Outstanding student for last year, then the award should be given to him. This award was fairly given to a South African student. Some people are so narrow minded and can not see the light of day. This white kid was born in South Africa. So he is more of an African, then the black kids , that were born here. They just don't get it, do they ??

It sounds like to me the only real African American was that which was born on the Continent of Africa, does not matter the color of skin. By all logic and common sense not to mention decency the kid born is Africa is African. Others should recognize this and congratulate him! And of course the generosity of other kid should be noted.

The black would expect the African American, to be black,
I don't think its right for them to separated, from the other Americans, either you are an American, or your an African, no in between

My spin is that the principal of that school is fired.
They should instead give an annual scholarship to "outstanding math student" or "outstanding music student" or "outstanding future teacher."

He's 100% more African than they ever will be...I bet not one of them have ever been to Africa..and he had to work had for the scholarship anyway, maybe they should have tried harder...
And its just like them to protest and riot.....You sure never see them complaining when they get chosen over a whit person because of Affirmative Action

Well, if he's african american, he's african american. It's pretty accurate. It's funny that people get mad if you call them black except when it's convenient.

Seems like it was all legit. It's too bad that some people had to make it a color-of-your-skin thing.
